The paper deals with some case studies in Slovak high pressure gas pipelines. All cases were caused by an interaction effect of the weld anomalies excessive misalignment, poor workmanship or cold strain hardening, of the metallurgical aspects in pipe production liquid Cu embrittlement, irregular microstructure and by an additional bend loading earthquake, sudden pipe settlement and landslide or site bending.

Przedstawiono studium przypadków dotyczących awarii gazociągów wysokiego ciśnienia na terytorium Słowacji. Wszystkie opisane przypadki były spowodowane niezgodnościami spawalniczymi, obecnością miedzi, niejednorodnością mikrostruktury oraz czynnikami zewnętrznymi, takimi jak trzęsienia ziemi, osuwiska, które w efekcie doprowadziły do nadmiernego obciążenia rury dodatkowym momentem gnącym.

Lmie (liquid metal indueed embrittlement) was studied on two model-systems: ni-bi at 700°c and cu-bi at 500°c. Lmie has been split in two independent steps, namely intergranular penetration at high temperature in absence of any external stress and room temperature embrittlement. Both systems exhibit rapid intergranular penetration with parabolic kinetics and subsequent room-temperature brittleness due to the intergranular diffusion of bismuth. The concentration profile of bismuth in grain boundaries bas been obtained by quantitative auger electron spectroscopy. For both systems an approximately one hundred microns transition zone between unaffected and embrittled part of grain boundary bas been shown, as opposed to Some nanometres transition length typical of the wetting phenomena. A major implication of these results is that the modelling of intergranular penetration and liquid metal embrittlement have to be based on a diffusionnal mechanism operating at a very tip of the penetration profile and in this sense lme (but not lmie) can be considered as a case of stress corrosion cracking.

Zbadano efektywność predykcji cen miedzi (średnich z 20 sesji) na Giełdzie Metali LME, w oparciu o statyczno-dynamiczne modele regresyjne. Pokazano, że sam model statyczny, wiążący ceny z wcześniejszym stanem zapasów, nie daje lepszych prognoz niż podtrzymanie zerowego rzędu, ale błąd jego reszt istotnie redukują odpowiednie modele dynamiczne ARMA. Wykazano, że jakość ich prognoz można znacznie poprawić, biorąc dane o zwiększonym rozstępie, co formalnie zmniejsza wyprzedzenie prognozy.

Results of a prediction efficiency study of LME (London Metal Exchange) copper prices (averaged over 20 sessions) with static and dynamic regression formulae are discussed. It was shown that static relationships between official past stock state and prices do not produce predictions better than zero-order hold, but their residuals can be noticeably reduced by using proper dynamic (ARMA) formulas. It was found, that the forecast may be essentially improved by taking samples of larger distance, thus reducing formal ahead.

Omówiono w zarysie organizację światowego rynku miedzi oraz najważniejsze czynniki wpływające na jej ceny. Przedstawiono dane dotyczące podaży, popytu, zapasów oraz cen miedzi w okresie 1998-2003. Na tym tle przedyskutowano wpływ dekoniunktury gospodarczej w roku 2001 na sytuację producentów miedzi oraz na przebiegi wskaźników giełdy LME. Zwrócono uwagę na możliwość wykorzystania danych o oficjalnych zapasach LME jako syntetycznego wskaźnika ilościowego przewidywanej koniunktury na rynku miedzi.

The paper outlines organization of the world copper trade and key factors affecting copper prices. Five years data (1998-2003) on world-wide copper supply-demand, LME stocks and prices are presented. On this background one discusses effects of 2001 global economic decrease on situation of main copper producers and on time profiles of LME indices. It was noticed that the LME copper stock data may be used as an informative indicator characterizing expert's expectations on future situation of global copper market.
