One of the reasons for the development of Nowa Huta in the current location was the ease of transporting machinery and building materials. This was possible thanks to the Kocmyrzów railway, existing here since the times of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, which tracks were divided where the Rondo Czyżyńskie is located nowadays. This railway influenced not only the urban structureof Nowa Huta, but also contributed with the development of a new town from the edges, while the centre, with the Central Square, was completed only in the last phase. In the 1960s, the Kocmyrzów railway was liquidated and there are only a few remains left to this day. The article presents the history of the construction and operation of the Kocmyrzów railway.
