The main hydrogeochemical processes affecting the composition of certain naturally carbonated waters of southwestern Poland

Kłodzko region is a historical region in southwestern Poland, cutting into the territory of the Czech Republic. In geological terms, it contains (within the Polish borders) the Upper Nysa Kłodzka Graben and the Orlica-Śnieżnik Metamorphic Unit. The region abounds in naturally carbonated waters, whose composition is dominated by HCO-3, Na+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions. This study concerns the chemical composition of waters from particular intakes situated in Kudowa-Zdrój, Jeleniów, Duszniki-Zdrój, Polanica-Zdrój and Gorzanów. Chemical data were analysed mathematically and by hydrochemical modelling performed with the help of the AquaChem5.1 and PhreeqC codes. The chemical composition of the waters studied is shaped chiefly by hydrolysis of aluminosilicates. The major ion composition is also influenced by ion exchange (adsorption and desorption) with and dissolution of carbonate minerals. Analysis of saturation indexes showed that these waters are in equilibrium with kaolinite. Generally speaking, the chemical composition of waters in this region is determined by dissolution and precipitation of carbonates (mostly secondary) and aluminosilicates in the presence of carbon dioxide, as well as by ion exchange.

Przy rozpoznaniu warunków geotermicznych Ziemi Kłodzkiej najbardziej istotne dla określenia perspektywicznych obszarów występowania wód termalnych jest wytypowanie stref tektonicznych uprzywilejowanych dla drenażu takich wód. Dodatkowym argumentem za ich występowaniem jest częste występowanie w ich obrębie lub w pobliżu stwierdzonych już wód termalnych (powyżej 20°C) i wód o podwyższonej temperaturze (od 15°C do 20°C). W rejonie Ziemi Kłodzkiej wyróżnia się dwa systemy rozłamów tektonicznych. Rozpatrując pierwszy system (NW-SE) wyróżnia się dwa rozłamy: Buszyński i Karkonoski. W obrębie rozłamu Karkonoskiego występują wody lecznicze Kudowy Zdroju i Jeleniowa oraz Dusznik Zdroju. Dodatkowo stwierdzono wypływ wody termalnej w Krosnowicach. Miejscowość ta znajduje się w pobliżu strefy uskokowej Pstrążna-Gorzanów zgodnej z przebiegiem rozłamu Karkonoskiego. Rozpatrując drugi system rozłamów (NNE-SSE), zaznacza się strefa rozłamu Morawsko-Śląskiego, z którą związane są wody termalne Lądka-Zdroju.

The most important for the indication of the prospectiv areas for the thermal water occurrence is the determining the tectonic zone which can be zones of drainage of those waters. The occurrence of the thermal water (with temperature above 20°C) and water with higer temperature (from 15°C to 20°C) in the vinicity of those tectonic zonesis the additional argument for their determining. In The Kłodzko Region there are two regional tectonic fractures system. In the first system (NS-SE) there are two deep fractures: Buszyński and Karkonoski fractures; within Karkonoski fractures incoming medicinal waters in Kudowa, Jeleniów and Duszniki Zdrój. Moreover, in Krosnowice a thermal water was found to. It is in the vinicity of Pstrążna-Gorzanów fault which probable a part of Karkonoski fractures is. A part of the second system (NNW-SSE) is the Moravian-Silesian fractures. The sponatneous outflow of thermal waters in Lądek Zdrój probable with this tectonic zone is connected.
