Content available remote Spectrophotometric Distances - Problem of Interstellar Extinction
EN
Distances to 112 hot reddened stars in the thin Galactic disk have been estimated with different methods and, their accuracies have been compared. Also, we have applied the CaII-method to test its relation to trigonometric parallax and the spectrophotometric one. Some interstellar clouds apparently contain especially large size dust grains which cause interstellar gray (neutral) extinction. The latter does not correlate with the typical color extinction and may falsify spectrophotometric distance estimates. We conclude that CaII and TiII based method provides in many cases the most correct and reliable distance estimates to hot, bright, distant stars in the thin disk of the Milky Way - more accurate than obtained with the spectrophotometric method.

Content available remote Interstellar Silicon Abundance
EN
We present 34 measurements of silicon gas phase column densities in the interstellar medium. We have used spectra containing the Si II 1808 Å line which were obtained with the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph (GHRS) aboard the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Extinction curve parameters are determined for analyzed lines of sight and relation between Si/H ratio and extinction parameters is discussed. We find the abundance of gas phase silicon in diffuse clouds to be lower than the solar value by a factor of four.

Content available remote Interstellar Carbon Abundance
EN
We present 10 new measurements of carbon gas phase column density in the interstellar medium. We have used spectra made with the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph aboard the Hubble Space Telescope containing the CII 1334.5 Å and CII* 1335.7 Å lines. The continuum reconstruction method has been used to obtain the carbon column density from the Lorentzian damped lines. Extinction curve parameters are determined in selected directions and relation between C/H ratio and extinction parameters is discussed. A correlation has been found between C/H and the strength of the 2175 Å bump. Unlike previous results, we notice that C/H changes with fractional abundance of molecular hydrogen, f(H2). The average value of C/H=3.55×10-4 for lines of sight with f(H2)<1×10-3 is the same as solar photospheric abundance from Grevese and Noels (1993) and may represent the real cosmic carbon abundance.

Content available remote Catalog of Visual Extinction Obtained from UV Color Excesses
EN
Large collection of visual extinction A(V) and RV[≡AV/E(B-V)] parameters for 1013 OB type stars is presented. The A(V) and RV values were obtained from UV extinction curves. A comparison of obtained values with those obtained by Cardelli and Clayton (1991) from the near IR photometry is also discussed.
