Role and importance of metalworking fluids (MWF) in the modern metal cutting technology is presented. The FORD test and HERBERT test method as well as the IOS developed method of corrosion estimation for fresh and used metalworking fluids are described. The examples of corrosivity and bacterial resistance of the used MWF and the results of testing of some grades of emulsion on the base of mineral and vegetable oils are given. Methods of microbiological resistance testing used in the bacterial and mycological tests of the used and fresh emulsions are presented. The results of anti-wear properties testing performed using the Reichert test are given. In summary different values of the same features of the tested MWF and their influence on the personnel health problems and environment are presented. Paper contains many examples of testing results in form of photographic documentation, Tables and Figures.
