The paper contains a proper approach to the Hooke's law as well as its developed version. A system approach was applied covering all the process of material elongation. An adequate interpretation of this law is given indicating that it touches only changes of magnitudes which describe the considered reality. The plot of elongation curve has been presented by separating a series of proper zones connected with the phenomena occurring in this process. A developed version of the Hooke's law, taking into account the considered reality concerning the material stress both its own as well as caused by external loading, is the conclusion of these considerations.

On the basis of Hooke’s law for multiaxial stress in elastic solids, similar relationships for viscoelastic materials are considered. It is assumed that the material is homogeneous and isotropic, and that the Kelvin-Voigt’s model is applicable to normal strain components. An analogous model is also taken for shear strain components. It is shown that the ratio of coefficients of viscous damping of normal and shear strain components is equal to the ratio of Young modulus and shear modulus. As a result, the modified Hooke’s law for multiaxial stress in viscoelastic materials has been formulated which includes three material constants: Young modulus, Poisson’s ratio and coefficient of viscous damping of normal strain.

Podstawowym parametrem określającymi, właściwości wytrzymałościowe pudeł z tektury falistej jest odporność pudła na ściskanie (BCT), która jest ściśle związana z odpornością na zgniatanie krawędziwe (ECT) tektury użytej do jego wykonania. Pomiary wskaźników ECT i BCT są jednymi z najczęściej stosowanych metod oceny wytrzymałości tektury falistej i pustego pudła z tektury. W pracy przedstawiono nową metodę oceny wskaźnika BCT pudeł z tektury falistej. Punktem wyjścia do proponowanego określenia tego wskaźnika jest teoria wielowarstwowych płyt ortotropowych. W celu weryfikacji przedstawionej metody obliczenie wskaźnika BCT dla pudła klapowego z trójwarstwowej tektury falistej przeprowadzono na drodze numerycznej za pomocą metody elementów skończonych.

The substantial parameters which determine the corrugated box properties are the edgewise crush test (ECT) and the box compression test (BCT). The ECT and BCT index measurements are most often employed to valuate the strength of corrugated board and the ready-made boxes. In presented paper a new aproach of the BCT index determination procedure is presented. This procedure is based on the multi-layered orthotropic plates theory. The numerical simulations of the BCT test have been carried out to comparison with analytical results. The commercial software package ANSYS 9.0 has been employed to develop a model of the three-layers corrugated board under analysis, using the finite element method.

Istotnymi parametrami określającymi właściwości pudeł z tektury falistej są odporność na zgniatanie krawędziowe ECT (Edgewise Crush Test) i odporność pudła klapowego na ściskanie BCT (Box Compression Test). Pomiary odporności ECT i BCT są jednymi z najczęściej stosowanych metod oceny wytrzymałości tektury falistej i pustego pudła z tektury. W pracy przedstawiono nową metodę oceny wskaźnika ECT tektury falistej. Punktem wyjścia do proponowanego określenia tego wskaźnika, jest teoria wielowarstwowych płyt ortotropowych. W celu weryfikacji przedstawionej metody, obliczenie wskaźnika ECT dla trójwarstwowej tektury falistej przeprowadzono na drodze numerycznej za pomocą metody elementów skończonych.

One of the most fundamental relations governing the dynamic properties of materials is Hooke's law of elasticity. Hooke's law is a relationship between stress and strain. Hooke's law describes materials which have relatively low damping very accurately. Short theory needed for calculation of elastic modulus, shear modulus and Poison's ratio is presented in this paper. Static measurement stress-strain characteristics of rubber and dynamic tests were described. Calculation of elastic modulus, shear modulus and Poisson's ratio of rubber is shown. Then the influence of strain' velocity on elastic modulus was measured and calculated and complex elastic modulus was calculated from dynamic tests.

The influence of internal restrictions on the elastic properties of anisotropic materials described by Hooke's law is discussed. Spectral decomposition of the stiffness tensor and the compliance tensor is applied. Possible types of restrictions imposed on the deformation modes are considered. An algorithm for accounting for these restrictions in a constitutive law that minimizes stiffening of the material is proposed. As examples, the volume-isotropic materials and fiber-reinforced materials are analyzed.
