Jezioro Genezaret (Jezioro Tyberiadzkie, Jezioro Galilejskie) jest położone w głębokiej depresji, a poziom tafli wody wynosi około 210 m poniżej poziomu morza. Od zachodu jezioro otaczają Góry Galilei, a od wschodu Wzgórza Golan. Wokół jeziora znajduje się wiele historycznych miejsc, które wiążą się z wydarzeniami opisanymi na kartach Starego i Nowego Testamentu. Szereg z tych miejsc - takich jak Tabgha, Kafarnaum, Korozain, Betsaida i Kursi - było związanych z działalnością Jezusa. Inne miejsca - takie jak Chammat, Kinneret, Rakka i Afek - są wzmiankowane w Starym Testamencie. Gamala, Groty Arbeli oraz Rogi Huttin były miejscami innych ważnych wydarzeń historycznych.

Sea of Genezaret (Sea of Tiberiada, Sea of Galilea) is situated in the great depression (ca 210 m b.s.l.). From the West the sea is flanked by the Galilea Mountains and from the East by the Golan Heights. Around the sea there are many historical places on which lot of the events described in the Old and New Testament occurred. Several of these places, such as Tabgha, Kafarnaum, Korozain, Betsaida and Kursi are strongly connected with the activity of Jesus. Another places like Chammat, Kinneret, Rakka and Afek are related to the Old Testament events. Gamala, Arbela Caves and Qarn Huttin are the places of other important historical events.

The events presented in the Holy Bible, both in the New and Old Testament, are located in the geographical space covering huge territory from the old Mesopotamia on the East to the present Rome on the West, and from present Turkey on the North to Egypt on the South. Palestine, which constitutes the centre point of this territory, is located on the boundary of three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe, thus creating a bridge between these territories. The Bible events taking place in particular periods, occurred in various places of this territory. The territory of Palestine is characterised by several geographic and climatic zones. Over the long period of Bible events, both climate and geopolitical conditions changed several times, hence influencing these events. In the paper geological and geomorphological conditions as well as climatic and geopolitical conditions related to the Palestine territory are presented and their relations with the Bible events are indicated. Knowledge of Biblical geospace is necessary for proper recognition and understanding of the salvation history described in the Bible. Appropriate description of his geospace is one of basic tasks implemented within the framework of the research project concerning the time-space information system about Biblical events realized in the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography in cooperation with the Jagiellonian University and the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University.

Artykuł przedstawia wybrane geoinformacyjne aspekty prezentacji wydarzeń opisanych w Biblii (zarówno w Starym, jak i Nowym Testamencie). Analiza atlasów i monografii przedstawiających wydarzenia biblijne, przeprowadzona w Instytucie Geodezji i Kartografii, wykazała szereg błędów i usterek w ich sposobie prezentacji. Jako rezultat analiz wyłoniła się potrzeba opracowania czasowo zorientowanego systemu informacyjnego, wykorzystującego geograficzną referencyjną bazę danych jako podstawę tworzenia map tematycznych.

Paper presents some selected geoinformation aspects related to the presentation of events described in the Holy Bible (both Old and New Testament). The analysis of the various atlases and monographies, presenting the Holy Bible events, performed in the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, indicated a lot of errors and mistakes. As the result of this analysis, the necessity of creation of the time oriented spatial information system, in which the geographic reference data base will be used for creation of various thematic maps, was underlined.
