Zespoły pałacowo-parkowe zajmują ważną rolę w sztuce ogrodowej. Współcześnie czerpią one z historycznych doświadczeń, nie zapominając przy tym o nowocześniejszych rozwiązaniach. Aby podkreślić wartość wspomnianych obiektów do ich wnętrz wprowadza się np. kompozycje bylinowe. Część rabat odtwarza dawne układy, inne są nowymi detalami zaprojektowanymi w celu podniesienia waloru estetycznego.

Palace-and park complexes play very important role in the art of gardening. Contemporarily, they draw from historic experience, taking into account also modern solutions. Nowadays, to raise the value of the above mentioned objects, elements enlivening the given area – compositions made of flowers. Part of flower beds reconstruct historic layouts, others are new elements designed to add additional aesthetic value.

W Siemianowicach Śląskich znajduje się zespół pałacowo-parkowy, który został przekształcony w Park Miejski. Kompleks ten należał kiedyś do rodziny Henckel von Donnersmarcków. Dzisiaj służy wszystkim mieszkańcom miasta. W miejscu tym mogą oni spędzać swój wolny czas - zarówno w sposób aktywny, jak i bierny. Park oprócz swojej wartości historycznej (cały zespół jest najważniejszym zabytkiem miejscowości) posiada także duże znaczenie przyrodnicze. Pełni rolę zielonej enklawy, stanowiąc przy tym miejsce ostoi dla roślin i zwierząt. Dodatkowo, razem z sąsiadującymi użytkami ekologicznymi i terenami rekreacyjnymi, tworzy „zielone płuca” miasta.

The town of Siemianowice Śląskie is where we can find a palace-and-park complex which nowadays serves as the Town Park. The complex used to be owned by the Henckel von Donnersmarck family; today it is open to everyone looking for either active or passive leisure. Apart from its historical value (the complex being the most significant monument of the town), the park is also of special importance to the environment. It can be seen as an enclave of greenery and a sanctuary for plants and animals. Moreover, together with the neighbouring recreation area and ecological sites, the park contributes to the symbolic “green lungs” of the town.

The residence presented in this paper, namely the palace and park complex in Siemianowice Śląskie, is one of the most valuable monuments of this Upper Silesian town. Located in the town centre, it has had a well-deserved reputation for a number of years, still being among the elite places of interest in the local area. Throughout the time, the palace with the surrounding park have undergone a number of transformations that have influenced its contemporary state of maintenance, either directly or indirectly. The present study aims to analyse and assess the outcome of those transformations. The results of the study will be used to evaluate the present technical condition of the palace, as well as to draw conclusions as to the architectural and social challenges that the complex is facing nowadays.
