Over the past decades, crude oil available to refineries have generally decreased in API gravity with simultaneous increase in asphaltene constituents, sulfar content, metal content, and nitrogen content. This increasing feed heavines simultaneously effects the product quality specefications and also increased the fraction of heavy residue; the bottom of the barrel. The problem of effective conversion of the residue into ligher, more valuables "desired" products.
