The development of communication infrastructure in the 21st century requires the skillful use of advanced technology, which includes solutions, design and management of urban space. The aim of the article is to present the role of advanced technologies, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and analysis of natural images, in the development of urban infrastructure. The article contains a broad and inclusive review of literature and analyses of normative sources in terms of the use of both systems: BIM and GIS, as well as digital databases. This publication also draws attention to the necessity of using the above-mentioned technologies and satellite images in urban planning projects and the need to integrate these technologies in the implementation of infrastructure projects. The publication indicates notes and standards. Additional possible applications of implementation and benefits from the integration of BIM and GIS.

In the era of increasing digitization and dependence on information technologies, cybersecurity is becoming a key element of critical infrastructure management. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) play a vital role in monitoring, analyzing, and managing infrastructure assets. This paper explores the integration of national cybersecurity standards with GIS systems, focusing on critical infrastructure security management. A literature review and case studies of cybersecurity standards implementation in GIS systems allow for the identification of the main challenges and requirements. The article also presents methods of risk assessment and incident management in the context of GIS. The results of the research indicate the need for close cooperation between cybersecurity professionals and GIS users to ensure comprehensive protection of critical infrastructure. The article concludes with practical conclusions and proposals for future research directions in the area of integration of cybersecurity standards with GIS systems.

The presentation of landforms in two-dimensional graphics may not always be clear and understandable to every viewer. The presentation of landforms, as well as other types of characteristics and issues in three-dimensional space can bring many advantages in the process of better understanding of the surrounding reality. The primary purpose of this research is to put forward a simple scheme, accessible to any Geographic Information Systems user, for generating 3D physical terrain models for any area of the Earth. The presented scheme can be used anywhere in the world, however, for the purpose of illustrating its capabilities, a case study of a selected area – the Tatra Mountain range – was conducted in this paper. As part of the study, a 3D model was developed based on a Digital Elevation Model obtained from an open source, i.e. MapTiler. An indisputable advantage of the study is that the designed process flow in its structure takes into account only generally available tools and software (the model was prepared in the QGIS program). However, a certain limitation is the process of printing itself, which depends on the availability of specialized printing equipment. In this case study, FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) technology was used for printing, and the model itself was prepared on a Creality Ender 7 printer. The proposed flowchart, on the one hand, unifies and simplifies the process of creating physical 3D models, while on the other hand, it provides opportunities for GIS users and developers to develop the proposed solution.

Based on the SCOPUS database, the study shows the results of a bibliometric analysis of scientific publications related to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from 2013–2023. The study covers 8528 papers and is intended to understand research trends and the geographic diversity of publications. This paper uses the bibliometrix tool, an R language package for bibliometric analysis. The results show that the most significant number of publications come from India and China, which also have high citation rates. Keyword analysis reveals that there has been increased interest in remote sensing, land use, urban planning, urbanization, environmental monitoring, risk assessment, and diagnostics of water quality and flood-prone areas in recent years. The survey provides valuable information on the direction of research related to Geographic Information Systems and points to the need for greater integration and cooperation in international research.
