Dissemination of public sector spatial data and data gathered by commercial entities to third parties by means of Internet technologies has been more and more popular since 1990s. The appearance of interoperable web services made it possible to integrate upstream and downstream supply chains among distinct organizations providing and consuming spatial data including their heterogeneous enterprise GIS environments. Spatial data infrastructures adhering to international standards and generally accepted implementation specifications enable authorized users to establish links between their systems and the systems of data providers in order to pipe data for the purposes of data processing, analysis, and visualization. In the context of Polish powiats (counties) the potential of spatial data infrastructures can be best harnessed by implementing OGC WMS and WFS services. These components can be readily employed to allow authority representatives and the general public access to spatial data (e.g. reference data, cadastre data), to which they have dedicated access rights via Intranet and Internet, respectively.
