Maintenance of assets and equipment in power plants is essential for their safety and is required to help the plant stay active. In this paper, the specimens manufactured from a pipe of X10CrMoVNb9-1 (P91) power engineering steel in the as-received state and after operating for 80 000 h at internal pressure of 8.4 MPa and temperature of 540ºC were subjected to tests using electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) under static loading of up to 2.5 kN. Such a procedure enables assessment of strain and stress distribution maps to compare material integrity in the as-received state and after exploitation in its elastic range. The measurements conducted showed no effect of long time operation on the mechanical response of P91 steel under the power installations conditions since the field strain distributions for each type of specimen were found to be similar.

For the generation of speckle images, a luminescent powder applied in a small amount to the sample surface and stimulated by UV radiation was used. We obtained fine-grained speckle patterns with very high contrast and small size of spots, The shape of the single speckle, unlike laser method, is circular, which is important for the effectiveness of the used digital image analysis methods. The measurements of displacements and deformations were made by use of digital image registration and its analysis using correlation procedures. The results are presented in the form of bitmaps, tables and graphs. The developed method was tested on flat wood specimens subjected to three-point bending.

The paper presents experimental and numerical analyses of two cases of mandibular corpus fractures cured by means of miniplate implantation. In the laboratory tests, strain gauges and electronic speckle pattern interferometry methods were used, while in the numerical simulations finite element analyses were applied. The aim of such a combined approach was to verify a correctness of the numerical model applied with regard to the assumptions and simplifications which had been done when creating FEM for human mandible: healthy, broken and stabilized with miniplate implants.

The purpose of the conducted research was a biomechanical analysis of occipito-cervical stabilisation including an estimation of occiput bone dislocation as well as the examination of the anchor-bone connection endurance. An experimental analysis of displacements' distribution on the surface of bone preparations was carried out, in the analysis post-mortem preparations with an inserted implant were used. An analysis of displacements registered on the same stabilizer was carried out, too. Measurements methods used in the research were computer tomography (CT), Electronic Speckle Interferometry (ESPI) and holographic interferometry.

Possibilities of applying several experimental methods to the analysis of displacements, strains and stresses in bone structures and implants are presented. Such methods as photoelasticity, holographic interfe-rometry, speckle photography and strain gauges are described. These techniques are significant in experimental investigations, especially during fast improvement of modem analytical and numerical methods. Experimental methods are indispensable for experimental verifications of boundary conditions in theoretical models. Experimental investigations of real objects and biomechanical models were carried out.
