Pokazano nowoczesne podejście do budowy sieci metropolitalnych jutra, łączące w sobie funkcjonalność oraz elastyczność niezbędną przy tworzeniu tego typu rozwiązań. Sieci metropolitalne, w przeciwieństwie do rozwiązań długodystansowych, muszą obsłużyć bardzo dużą różnorodność transmitowanych protokołów, usług, przepływności oraz interfejsów. Pokazano jedno z rozwiazań firmy Alcatel dla sieci metropolitalnych.

It was shown, that there are some crucial differences between the requirements of a backbone network and a metropolitan network. The most striking differences are the variety of services and the number of nodes that are involved. Whereas a backbone network generally carries only one or two frame formats, as a metropolitan network gets closer to the end users the services and frame formats become very varied, with telecom, datacom and storage area network interfaces. One of Alcatel's solution for the next generation metro network was described.

Pokazano, że ciągle wzrastające zapotrzebowanie na tańsze i bardziej elastyczne usługi transmisji danych powoduje zmiane podejścia do tradycyjnych multiplekserów ADM SDH. W konsekwencji powoduje to potrzebę przekształcenia tych systemów w wezły wielousługowe. W artykule opisano główne produkty Alcatela, które laczą w sobie niezawodność SDH z elastycznością i niskim kosztem zapewnionym przez Ethernet oraz zdolnością do agregacji i przełączania różnych typów ruchu transmisji danych.

There is a rising demand for cheaper and more flexible data services, which has led to SDH ADMs being remodeled into true multi-service nodes. The combination of "SDH-class" reliability with the flexibility and low-cost offered by delivering Ethernet services, together with the ability to aggregate and switch various types of data traffic, is ideal for metropolitan networks. The article describes Alcatel's flagship products in the metro optical space and their architecture.
