This paper addresses the issue of selecting a suitable location for a fire station in canton of Fribourg, as a result of a fire brigades’ merger, by applying Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods. Solving the problem of determining fire station locations through various methods has been analyzed in-depth by researchers. However, a different approach, based on application of ELECTRE I and ELECTRE II methods is advanced in this paper. The selection of the most suitable fire station site is obtained by applying the designated methods to five distinctive alternatives (called scenarios), taking into consideration the relatively limited information and specifics, and the extensive number of relevant criteria that summed up to sixty-one. Taking the merger of the three local fire departments as an example, the proposed methods for selecting a suitable location for the fire station demonstrate and justify the reason behind this choice. Research shows that the applied methods have been proven to be useful and powerful tools that exhibited acceptable levels of consistency when selecting the best project. The main finding is that one scenario in particular proved to be preferred over the others and most suitable in determining the fire station location.

The development of e-commerce site operators in Indonesia is now faced with intense competition for defending the market segment, especially regarding how e-commerce sites are attracting consumers through specic marketing strategies. This study implements a decision support system approach to help marketers to determine price discount alternatives using the Elimination et Choix Traduisant la Realite (ELECTRE) method. The ELECTRE method is widely recognized for having good performance in analyzing customer behavior criteria; however, there is little information about discount analysis using the ELECTRE method. This study implements a method for consumer behavior simulation that can be aected by the criteria to make a purchase on a simulated e-commerce website. Our model estimates three parts of the matrices' analysis: (a) average value of discounted price (DP); (b) average value of pro- duct brand (PB); and (c) average value of purchase decision (PD). We used these as the main alternatives; e.g., price discounts as rst alternative (A1), brand discount as second alternative (A2), and purchase discount as third alternative (A3). Based on the results of the dominant aggregation matrix, the study found that the results are dominated by brand discount (A2). In other words, it is recommended for the decision maker to focus their discount on certain brands more precisely as a marketing strategy than price discount or purchase discount.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest dokonanie przeglądu funkcjonalności istniejących serwisów porównawczych na polskim rynku oraz wskazanie możliwości ich rozwoju. Proponowane rozwiązanie obejmuje zwiększenie liczby kryteriów porównywania produktów oraz zaadoptowania metod wielokryterialnej analizy decyzyjnej do uzyskania najlepszych wariantów decyzyjnych z punktu widzenia użytkownika serwisu.

The following paper is dealing with directions developing in the literature on choosing the MCDA method best suited to solve a given decision problem. When considering factors originating from the subject of the decision, the main focus was on case studies which support applying a particular method to a given problem - price comparison in the Internet.

Since the enlargement of the European Union in 2004 Poland has got a great opportunity to benefit from the European Union structural funds intended for supporting restructuring and modernisation of the weaker regions of EU member countries. One of the conditions of not missing this opportunity is rational allocation of the financial means provided by the funds that depends among others on proper choice of projects that are going to be co-financed. In order to aid the decision-makers in this important and difficult task the multiple criteria analysis techniques can be applied, especially these ones based on the outranking relation. As the empirical example of above-mentioned problem the application of stochastic dominance rules and multicriteria methods from ELECTRE and PROMETHEE families to selecting projects applying for co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund and reported on Measure 1.2 Environmental protection infrastructure is going to be presented1.

Solving multicriteria decision problems, like choice and ranking, requires the use of decision maker's DM's (Decision Maker's) preference model. In this paper, we investigate some issues of equivalence between the preference model in terms of "if..., then..." decision rules and a concordance-discordance preference model based on the use of the outranking relation. The decision rule model is attractive for at least two reasons: (i) it is intelligible and speaks the language of the DM, (ii) the preference information coming from the DM is a set of decision examples. The decision rules are induced from rough approximations of the preference relation specified in decision examples. Then, from the set of decision rules representing the DM's preferences, criteria weights and veto thresholds are inferred, setting up an equivalent preference model following from concordance-discordance tests proposed in ELECTRE methods. A simple example will illustrate the interest of such an equivalence.
