Contemporary development and the range of application as well as effectiveness of telematics solutions depend, to a larger extent, on creative implementations of the latest solutions and concepts related to the exchange of data. This article raises an issue of information interchange in business in view of changes generating on one hand new needs and on the other new possibilities. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is still a basic concept in this area, based on EDIFACT (technical aspect in ISO 9735 norm) and created in 80s of 20th century, it satisfies contemporary needs to a lesser extent. Nowadays, there is a trend towards devising modern communication solutions which can be easily modified and operate in the “cloud” in its broad sense. These modern concepts constitute a basis for a wider usage of telematics solutions in the economy and everyday life. This article makes an attempt to identify and holistically grasp determinants of such solutions. This elaboration aims to compare a traditional and a new approach to data interchange as well as to show trends and new development directions affecting the development of telematics solutions.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników badań przeprowadzonych wśród firm z branży TSL będących uczestnikami systemu GS1 w Polsce. Badanie dotyczy wykorzystywanych kanałów komunikacyjnych, typów oraz stosowanych standardów komunikatów wykorzystywanych przez firmy TSL w komunikacji elektronicznej. Artykuł opisuje kierunki rozwoju oraz trendy zaobserwowane w tym obszarze, z uwzględnieniem podziału na rodzaje usług oraz wielkość przedsiębiorstw. Raport zawiera również informacje o najczęściej występujących problemach w komunikacji elektronicznej i rekomendacje mające na celu minimalizację tych problemów.

The article objective is to present the results of survey between Transport and Logistics sector companies which are the members of GS1 Poland. The research concerns a communication channels, types and standards of messages used in electronic communication in Transport and Logistics Sector. Article describes the development direction and trends in different size of companies. Report contains also information of the most frequent problems in electronic communications and recommendations how to minimize them.

Sprawność i niezawodność logistycznych procesów dostaw, produkcji i dystrybucji jest uzależniona od szybkości i efektywności przetwarzania informacji, która w obecnych czasach jest determinowana przede wszystkim możliwościami nowoczesnej technologii komputerowej. Systemy informatyczne i rozwiązania techniczne związane z elektroniczną wymianą danych gospodarczych stanowią podstawowy element współczesnej infrastruktury logistycznej. Głównym zamierzeniem autorów artykułu jest przedstawienie tego typu rozwiązań stosowanych w procesie obsługi towarów w gdyńskich terminalach kontenerowych.

The efficiency and reliability of logistics processes in supply, production and distribution is dependent on the speed and efficiency of information processing, which is primarily determined by the possibilities of modern computer technology. Information systems and technical solutions related to the electronic data interchange of business data are an essential element of modern logistics infrastructure. The main aim of the article is to present this type of solutions used in the service process of goods in container terminals in Gdynia.
