Since the first steel was made pig iron in one form or another has been an integral component material. Though the face of steelmaking has changed considerably over the past 40 years the utilization of pig iron as a raw material for steel production has grown. The assortment of steel produced in EAF furnaces has expanded by new grades for flat and long products and therefore pig iron has been found as an ideal raw material for use in EAF process improving the flexibility of this process. Utilization of pig iron in EAF process has a profitable effect on consumption of the electrical and chemical energy of the process.
