In this article we introduce a general approach for 4-tap and 6-tap orthogonal wavelet filter synthesis. The new approach is more general than Daubechies approach and can be used to synthesize computationally efficient wavelets for many applications. The new wavelets are obtained by imposing new conditions on wavelet filters. The resultant 4-tap and 6-tap wavelets are more computationally efficient than equivalent Daubechies 4 and Daubechies 6 wavelets and give comparable results in terms of signal compression.

W artykule przedstawione zostało nowe podejście do budowy filtrów transformacji falkowej o długości 4 i 6.

The paper includes comparison of properties of multiresolution analysis with use of Malvar wavelet and selected Daubechies wavelets. Analysis includes signals containing harmonical component and white noise with different signal to noise ratio and underwater noise. Number of wavelet coefficients containing given amount of signal energy were examined, with change of paremeters like number of decomposition levels, time interval width, slope of wavelet envelope.

The paper addresses the problem of identification of nonlinear characteristics of systems from a class of complex block-oriented dynamic systems. Non-linearities are recovered from the noisy input-output measurements. Wavelet functions with compact supports (Daubechies wavelets) are used in the identification algorithms. Convergence of the algorithms is shown and the asymptotic convergence rates (true for a number of measurements tending to infinity) are given. These theoretical results are supplemented by a set of numerical experiments in which performance of the algorithms is additionally tested for small and moderate number of measurements.
