Po tym, jak przy użyciu nowej technologii Direct Pipe wykonano z sukcesem wiele projektów w Europie i USA, oprócz uznania technicznych zalet pojawiło się pytanie o jej opłacalność. Na bazie konkretnego, ale fikcyjnego projektu, autorzy dokonali porównania aspektów kosztowych obu technik - Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) oraz Direct Pipe (DP). Efekty okazały się dość zaskakujące.

After successful application of the Direct Pipe technology within numerous projects in Europe and USA, except the technical advantage, the question was raised about its profitability. Based on a specific, fictitious project, the authors made a comparison of the costs aspects of the technologies - Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and Direct Pipe (DP). The effects were quite surprising. To compare the costs of the two technologies, a passage under a watercourse for gas pipe 48" (DN1200) of length 900 m was selected. Sandy, partially gravel ground. The same applies to waterside projects, where the technological edge of DP (no pipe side) generates significant savings in relation to HDD (minimization of the offshore-type works).
