This paper presents the method of assembly-oriented design with the use of DFA Expert computer software. The use of this method for analysis and redesign of the assembly product "Polimag" allowed to reduce the number of parts almost by half and to cut the estimated production cost appreciably.

The product design has a significant influence on assembly processes and production costs. This paper presents an algorithm for analyzing and improving the product design. The algorithm uses the BRRR assembly model and the assembly sequence matrix for the assembly process representation. There is an opportunity for computer-aided generating these models on the basis of the product's 3D model, created in the CAD system. The new computer-aided DFA tool named "DFA Expert" has been developed. The implementation of "DFA Expert" is based on the proposed algorithm. An example of Air Distributor redesign has been included to illustrate the application of "DFA Expert".
