Współczesna architektura chińska drugiej fali

Artykuł przedstawia dwa pokolenia chińskich architektów (architekci tzw. Pierwszej i Drugiej Fali), działających w okresie post-Mao, czyli od czasu wprowadzenia reform Deng Xiaopinga. Zasadniczym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie prac najmłodszych architektów Drugiej Fali i próba ich charakterystyki. Przykłady ilustrujące artykuł to realizacje takich biur jak: META-Project (Wang Shuo), TAOA (Tao Lei), ZAO/standardarchitecture (Zhang Ke), Zhao Yang Architects oraz DnA_Design and Architecture (Xu Tiantian). Wybrane realizacje są z pewnością inspirującym przykładem eksperymentalnej chińskiej architektury ostatnich lat – architektury krytycznej, która w reakcji na błędy poprzednich lat, związane z ekstensywną modernizacją miast, starała się odbudować relację z utraconą tradycją, kierować swoją uwagę na człowieka, świadomego swojego miejsca we współczesnym świecie, jak również swojego dziedzictwa. Artykuł został opracowany na podstawie materiałów źródłowych pozyskanych bezpośrednio z biur architektonicznych w ramach pracy autora nad wystawą Współczesna Architektura Chin. Modernizm udomowiony, której autor był pomysłodawcą i, wraz z prof. Wang Lu (Tsinghua Univ, Pekin), współkuratorem. Wystawa została zaprezentowana w Muzeum Manggha, jej otwarcie towarzyszyło Biennale Architektury w Krakowie w roku 2017.

The article presents two generations of Chinese architects (architects of the so-called First and Second Wave) operating in the post-Mao period, that is, since the reforms of Deng Xiaoping. The main purpose of the article is to present the works of the youngest architects of the Second Wave and try to characterize them. Examples illustrating the article are the realizations of such offices as: META-Project (Wang Shuo), TAOA (Tao Lei), ZAO/standardarchitecture (Zhang Ke), Zhao Yang Architects and DnA_Design and Architecture (Xu Tiantian). Selected projects are certainly an inspiring example of the experimental Chinese architecture of recent years – critical architecture, which in response to the mistakes of previous years, associated with extensive modernization of cities, tried to rebuild the relationship with the lost tradition, direct and focus its attention to problems of locality and man and his heritage in the modern world. The article was compiled on the basis of source materials obtained directly from architectural offices as part of the author’s work on the exhibition Contemporary Architecture of China, Localized Modernism. The author together with prof. Wang Lu (Tsinghua Univ., Beijing) were co-curators of this first presentation of Chinese architecture in Poland. The exhibition was presented at the Manggha Museum, its opening was accompanied by the Architecture Biennial in Krakow in 2017.

Przyznanie młodemu chińskiemu architektowi Wangowi Shu tegorocznej prestiżowej nagrody Pritzkera byto zaskoczeniem, gdyż posiada on realizacje jedynie w swoim kraju. Tegoroczna nagroda Pritzkera oraz zeszłoroczna europejska nagroda Miesa van der Rohe za projekt konserwatorski Neues Museum w Berlinie, były bezprecedensowymi wydarzeniami, bowiem wszystkie poprzednie nagrody Miesa van der Rohe byty wręczane za projekty z awangardowej architektury najnowszej. Przyznane teraz owe nagrody świadczą o tym, jak ważkie w obecnym technokratycznym świecie są miejsca kreacji, tradycja, historia, pamięć przeszłości, wspomnienia.

Presenting the young Chinese architect Wang Shu with this year's prestigious Pritzker Prize was quite surprising because he has only had implementations in his homeland. This prize as well as last year's European Mies van der Rohe Prize for the design of restoring Neues Museum in Berlin were unprecedented events since all the previous Mies van der Rohe Prizes were given for designs of vanguard ultramodern architecture. Now these prizes show the significance of the places of creation, tradition, history, the memory of the past and reminiscences in the contemporary technocratic world.

Poszukiwanie autentyczności w architekturze - czy to w charakterze tworzącego projektanta czy odbiorcy - to zadanie niełatwe w dzisiejszym mieście. Architektura jest w nim towarem, który wystawiono pod ocenę oglądających i kupujących. Autorzy zastanawiają się nad tym zagadnieniem wykorzystując jako pretekst przykład dzisiejszej interpretacji hutongów - tradycyjnych zespołów zabudowy mieszkaniowej w Pekinie. Kanwą są spostrzeżenia dokonane przez współautorkę tekstu, studentkę architektury, podczas jej wyjazdu studialnego do Chin.

A question of authenticity in architecture is not an easy one in contemporary world. No matter it refers to creating authentic architecture or seeking for while touring foreign cities. In our times architecture has become a merchandise, which is put on display for prospective buyer or just viewers. The authors reflects upon the question of authenticity in architecture taking Beijing and its traditional housing units called 'hutongs' as an example. The paper is based on observation and recollections of a student of architecture done during her research trip to China.

The new buildings in major cities of China which has been lately created are a kind of collage combining what is good and what is bad in contemporary architecture. This style is referred to as PhotoShop urbanism. Among them there are examples of beauty, which we can reveal in harmony of colors, proportions, simplicity and special glamour.
