There is a need to search for additional indicators allowing for more accurate identification of both the trophic status of waters as well as its chemical and biological consequences. The work detailed in this paper involved a preliminary analysis pertaining to the possibility of using an isotopic index in association with the values for trophic and saprobic indicators in describing a dam reservoir experiencing a far-reaching eutrophication. The water samples for the physicochemical analysis were collected from three sites along the axis of the dam reservoir in Rzeszów three times during the spring and summer of 2013. The results sustained the classification of the Reservoir's waters as hypertrophic, irrespective of the particular zone sampled. While phytoplankton blooms characterised by reference to the numbers of organisms per unit volume of water were also similar throughout the Reservoir, diversification in terms of taxonomic composition was to be noted, given the occurrence of cyanobacteria among the dominant diatoms in the area close to the dam. This presence was accompanied by enrichment of the Reservoir's suspended organic matter with carbon of the heavier 13C isotope. On this basis, the δ13C isotopic index can be regarded as a potentially useful indicator allowing for more accurate identification of both the level and the nature of the ongoing trophic degradation in bodies of water.

This paper evaluates water quality and ecological status of lakes located in the Wielkopolska National Park and its buffer zone. Changes in water quality were analyzed from 1974 to 2012 in order to assess the effectiveness of the protection strategies implemented on the studied lakes since 1957, i.e. the date when the park was established. The ecological status of the lakes was assessed with the use of macrophytes as well as hydromorphological and physicochemical analyses performed in 2012. Changes in water quality of the studied lakes within the last 40 years were analyzed based on available published and unpublished data, as well as field studies. All water bodies are characterized by advanced eutrophication. However, evaluation of the ecological status showed good status of the charophyte-dominated lakes, i.e. Lake Wielkowiejskie and Lake Budzyńskie. Lack of significant differences in physicochemical water qualities between the park and its buffer zone indicated that measures implemented to protect the water, particularly in the park, are ineffective. This study shows that more radical conservation measures are necessary to protect and improve the water quality, not only in WPN and its buffer zone but also in the whole catchment area.

Stanowią mozaikę otwartej wody, szuwarów i różnorodnej roślinności wodnej. Badania florystyczne wybranych stawów Poleskiego Parku Narodowego wskazują, iż stanowią dogodne siedliska do rozwoju roślinności. Łącznie w badanych stawach odnotowano 16 zbiorowisk roślinnych. Parametry fizyczno-chemiczne osiągały bardzo zbliżone wartości w obu badanych zbiornikach. Pozwoliło to zaliczyć je do zbiorników żyznych. Zasobniejsze w związki biogenne były wody stawu Głębokiego niż stawu Perkoz. Dzięki ekstensywnemu użytkowaniu rybackiemu stawów PPN mają one naturalny charakter. W badanych stawach to głównie makrofity wynurzone budowały fitolitoral. Badane stawy zasiedlały zbiorowiska charakterystyczne dla wód mezo-, lekko- i eutroficznych.

The principal feature of fish ponds is their changeability and astatic. The vegetation of ponds as a rule characterize the large variety despite the small number of species. The investigations were carried out in rwo complexes of fish ponds located on the area of the Poleskiego National Park. These ponds were earlier used in various way. At present they are in various stages of the plant succession, Both complexes they are not typical productive fish ponds. They create the mosaic of open water, reeds and different water vegetation. Floral investigations of some fish ponds of the Poleski National Park showed, that they create good conditions to the vegetation development. In total there were 16 plant associations. Physical and chemical parameters achieved very approximate values in both studied reservoirs. This analysis confirmed their eutrophic character. The waters of the Głęboki pond were richer in nutrients than the Perkoz pond. The ponds in PPN, thanks to the extensive fishing use have the natural character. The phytolittoral was created mainly with ernergent macrophytes in studied ponds. There were plant communities typical for mezo- and slightly eutrophic waters.
