Artykuł zawiera charakterystykę samochodowych przekładni o bezstopniowej zmianie przełożenia. We wstępie odniesiono się do warunków współpracy silnika spalinowego pojazdów samochodowych z konwencjonalną oraz z opisywaną przekładnią. Zawarto krótki rys historyczny tego typu rozwiązań. W dalszej części przedstawiono dane o udziale tych przekładni w ogólnej produkcji skrzyń biegów wraz z prognozami dla różnych regionów Świata. Omówiono istniejące typy przekładni o bezstopniowej zmianie przełożenia, ze szczególnym naciskiem na rozwiązanie stosowane dziś najszerzej w samochodach osobowych. Przedstawiono kierunki rozwoju oraz wyzwania techniczne stojące przed konstruktorami.

Paper concerned the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The comparison of the engine’s work conditions with conventional manual transmission and CVT’s is presented. Also, a short historical track is included. Further-more, a production data with the forecast is presented for different parts of the World. Various current solutions of continuous ratio change are mentioned with the more detailed description of the most popular design used in passenger cars. Technological challenges and possibilities of further transmission improvement are included.

The paper discusses friction phenomenon between the pushbelt (or chain) in the continuously variable transmission. This type of transmission is becoming more and more popular. It is so due to the technical progress last years and its indisputable advantage over conventional transmissions. It enables us to use the full characteristic of the engine. The introduction describes the issue, principles of the transmission’s operation, the construction of the steel pushbelt and a scheme of forces acting on a single belt’s steel element (segment). In the next part, the article explains the need of researches and their impact on the transmission’s proceeding. Moreover, a simplified model of the test bench with description of the proposed tests needed to elaborate sought relationships is included in the paper.
