This paper presents a method, basing on the engineering knowledge and experience, for aiding the design process. In this method, the system is built using the hybrid architecture that combines the advisory system and the CBR method. In the paper the structure of the advisory system and the functioning of the CBR system have been described. Attention was drawn to the problem of an "empty database" in relation to systems basing on the CBR method. It was also discussed the area of engineering activities for which the proposed method is dedicated.

W pracy zaprezentowano koncepcję systemu komputerowego, bazującego na wiedzy i doświadczeniu inżynierskim do wspomagania procesu projektowania i konstruowania maszyn. Do wspomagania tego procesu zaproponowano metodę CBR (Case Based Reasoning). Przedstawiono sformalizowany opis działania systemu oraz pokazano strukturę i sposób funkcjonowania utworzonego oprogramowania.

The scope of the paper is the concept of a computer system based on the engineering knowledge and experience for supporting of machine design and construction process. Case Based Reasoning is the method proposed for assisting that process. A formalized description of the system is provided, as well as the structure and functioning of the created software.

Zaprezentowano zarys metodologii technicznego przygotowania produkcji. Przedstawiona została metoda Case Based Reasoning w procesie szacowania kosztów wytwarzania w fazie projektowania. Omówiona została metoda oraz opracowana na jej podstawie aplikacja. Dokonana została analiza otrzymanych wyników oraz ocena przydatności metody w szacowaniu kosztów wytwarzania.

The paper presents an outline of the methodology of technical preparation for production. Case Based Reasoning method was shown in relation to cost estimation at the design stage. The method itself was discussed along with an application which was created on its basis. An analysis of achieved results was carried out and the method usefulness was also evaluated in reference to estimating manufacturing costs.

This paper presents an algorithm for searching out similar ships, implemented in a hybrid system for aiding preliminary design of ship power plant, based on new similarity functions as well as those adapted from literature sources. For searching out similar ships a multicriterial optimization method of weighed profits was applied.

Omówiono badania nad cechami fizycznymi (masa powierzchniowa i grubość pod obciążeniem) oraz wytrzymałościowymi (rozciąganie metodą szerokich próbek i opór na przebicie metodą CBR), wykonane na fabrycznie nowych próbkach czterech geowłóknin oraz próbkach odzyskanych z nasypu. Przedstawiono szczegółową analizę zmian parametrów geowłóknin na skutek wbudowania w konstrukcję ziemną.

In this paper tests of physical and mechanical parameters of non-woven geotextiles, which performed function of protection and separation in earth structures, are presented. The tests of mass per unit area, thickness under loads, tensile strength by wide-width method and static puncture resistance by CBR method were performed for four non-woven geotextile products, for standard samples and samples extracted from the road embankment. Changes of physical and mechanical parameters of non-woven geotextiles as a result of installation in embankment are discussed in details.
