Brzesko - dziś niewielkie miasteczko położone nad rzeką Uszwicą, lokowane w połowie XIV wieku rozwija się w okresie średniowiecza w 3 zasadniczych etapach Etap pierwszy związany jest z założeniem miasta w oparciu o ortogonalny zgeometryzowany plan zbudowany z centralnie usytuowanego rynku otoczonego ośmioma blokami przeznaczonymi pod przyjęcie zabudowy siedliskowej. Okres drugi odpowiada inwestycjom mającym wyznaczyć trwałe i nieprzekraczalne granice układu miejskiego w postaci linii umocnień obronnych. Są to również czasy, w których wypełnieniu zabudową ulega wolna jeszcze przestrzeń zawarta pomiędzy ortogonalnym jądrem a owalem narysu obronnego. Okres trzeci związany jest z przeniesieniem trzech okolicznych wsi na status przedmieść miasta Brzeska. Były to struktury już zagospodarowane, o cechach regularnej zabudowy trzymającej się traktów komunikacyjnych łączących ja z miastem. Włączenie tych struktur w orbitę gospodarki miejskiej mogło być podyktowane, z jednej strony, efektem stopniowych zmian, jakie zachodziły od momentu lokacji Brzeska w zbiorze dotychczasowych funkcji realizowanych przez te jednostki, z drugiej - chęcią rozszerzenia w ten sposób potencjału gospodarczego samego miasta.

Brzesko - today a small town situated on the banks of the Uszwica River, was founded in themid-14th century and during the medieval period developed in three basic stages. The first stage was connected with founding the town on the basis of an orthogonal geometric plan consisting of a centrally located market place surrounded by eight blocks intended for housing purposes. The second stage involved investments whichwere to outline the permanent and impassable boundaries of the town layout, such as the line of defensive fortifications. Those were also the times when the free space between the orthogonal core and the oval of the defensive fortifications was gradually built in. The third period was connected with the transformation of the three nearby villages into the suburbs of Brzesko town. They were already developed structures, characterized by regular building development along the routes communicating with the town. Incorporating those structures into the sphere of town economy might have been determined on the one hand, by gradual changes which had been taking place within the functions realized by those units since the foundation of Brzesko, and on the other, by the desire of expanding the economic potential of the town in this way.

Brzesko town in south Poland numbers 35 thousands inhabitants. It is supplied with water by water intakes on the Dunajec river. Surface water is a source of the investigated water intake. The water intake is a important element of the water supply subsystem and shall meet requirements of reliable functioning i.e. ensure the supply of water with appropriate quantity and quality. The material from site surveys made it possible to determine water source reliability and some objects under investigation. Two-parametric assessment of functioning investigated subsystem water supply has been carried and. It testified too low reliability level its a result of assessment proposals for the modernisation of the investigated subsystem is presented.
