Content available remote Preliminary research of a symmetrical controllable granular damper prototype

This paper concerns the problem of empirical investigation and mathematical modelling of a novel controllable damper using Vacuum Packed Particles. Vacuum Packed Particles tend to be placed among the group of so-called ‘smart structures’. The macroscopic mechanical features of such structures can be controlled by the partial vacuum parameter. The authors consider an application of Bouc-Wen model in order to represent the dynamic behaviour of the investigated device. The verification of the model response with experimental data is discussed. The Bouc-Wen model parameters identification is described.

The paper presents a prototype of an innovatory controllable torsional damper. The device is composed of Vacuum Packed Particles. Such structures are made of granular materials placed in a hermetic soft encapsulation. Generating so called underpressure inside the system changes global dissipative properties of the granular structure. The partial vacuum value is a convenient way to control physical properties of the granular structure. The authors introduce an original prototype of a torsional vibration attenuator. In the experimental part, preliminary experimental results are presented and discussed. To capture the real response of the device, a Bouc-Wen rheological model is adopted.

The paper presents application of a modified, symmetrical Bouc-Wen model to simulate the mechanical behaviour of high-frequency piezoelectric actuators (PAs). In order to identify parameters of the model, a two-step algorithm was developed. In its first stage, the mechanical parameters were identified by taking into account their bilinear variability and using a square input voltage waveform. In the second step, the hysteresis parameters were determined based on a periodic excitation. Additionally, in order to reduce the influence of measurement errors in determination of selected derivatives the continuum wavelet transform (CWT) and translation-rotation transformation (TRT) methods were applied. The results proved that the modified symmetrical Bouc-Wen model is able to describe the mechanical behaviour of PAs across a wide frequency range.

Model Bouca-Wena jest sformułowaniem teoretycznym, umożliwiającym odzwierciedlenie rzeczywistej pętli histerezy modelowanego obiektu, jakim może być lina nośna występująca w mechanizmie podnoszenia suwnicy, gdzie dla przyjętej, zmodyfikowanej wersji modelu występuje dziewięć parametrów. Wyznaczenie takiej liczby parametrów jest zagadnieniem złożonym i problematycznym. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono zatem metodykę identyfikacji oraz przykładowe wyniki symulacji numerycznych. Otrzymane wyniki porównano z danymi uzyskanymi na podstawie badań laboratoryjnych lin [3] i na ich podstawie stwierdzono zgodność wyników i możliwość zastosowania w układach dynamicznych zawierających w swej strukturze cięgna [4].

Bouc-Wen model is theoretical formulation that allows to reflect real hysteresis loop of modeled object. Such object is for example a wire rope, which is present on equipment of crane lifting mechanism. Where adopted modified version of the model has nine parameters. Determination of such a number of parameters is complex and problematic issue. In this article are shown the methodology to identify and sample results of numerical simulations. The results were compared with data obtained on the basis of laboratory tests of ropes [3] and on their basis it was found that there is compliance between results and there is possibility to apply in dynamic systems containing in their structures wire ropes [4].

Content available remote Analysis of Oscillations of Vehicle Suspension with Magnetorheological Dampers

Analysis of vehicle's vibrations, modelled by a two-degree-of-freedom system, is presented in this paper. The suggested quarter-car model is investigated in two variants: (I) with a conventional suspension composed of a linear spring and a bilinear damper, (II) a system with semi-active suspension, realized by magnetorheological damper (MR). For description of MR damping force, as functions of velocity and input current Bouc-Wen model is used. An open loop control, based on abstract sky-hook and ground-hook models and MR damping, is used for a vehicle oscillations reduction. Obtained vehicle body acceleration, a suspension deflection and a tyre displacement are compared for two considered variants of suspension. Advantages of semi-active vehicle suspension are emphasised.
