The aim of the article is to present the idea of introducing biofuels into civil aviation transport. Due to the changing situation in the world, i.e. depleting fossil fuels, which consequently leads to several disadvantageous fluctuations of the worldfuel market, countries are forced to look for alternative energy sources. These sources, in case of transport infrastructure, could include biofuels that are appearing more frequently as an alternative for traditional fuels. An important element is the matter of so called New Energy Policy created by the European Union. This idea assumes getting independent of oil countries, which is connected with the energy security issue, and intensive actions for reducing CO₂ emissions to the atmosphere. These assumptions refer to air transport which paradoxically produces more CO₂ than road transport. Consequently, introducing biofuels to civil air transport is more and more realistic as they generate lower CO₂ emissions to the atmosphere: It is also dictated by the Clean Sky idea i.e. activities to decrease CO₂ emissions to the atmosphere and minimise noise generated by air planes. Therefore, particular air carriers are slowly starting to introduce Aviation Grade Ethanol (AGE85) and BIOQAV-1 as a complementation to traditional fuel. The Federative Republic of Brazil is leading in this area and it has a long experience in transport biofuels.
