After an initial discussion at the Committee of Mathematics Polish Academy of Sciences (CM PAS) meeting in February 2013 concerning the status of Applied Mathematics in Poland, I had a feeling of confusion and dissatisfaction, because it seemed to me, both to define the concepts mentioned by the panelists, like, the more standing problems, there was not sufficiently clear. Taking now the voice I have in the first place to that the slightly harden the soil considerations and, perhaps naively, to simplify issues, so as to agree not only possible initial thesis, but above all to establish basic problems discussed. Furthermore, in order to give the opportunity to more easily formulate opposite those presented below views and opinions and to raise interest in this issue the person listed below will present the thesis in a provocative categorical, although I realize that such a categorical would be difficult to fully justify and adopt. W 2012 r. Komisja Zastosowań Matematyki (KZM) Komitetu Matematyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk (KM PAN), której mam zaszczyt przewodniczyć w bieżącej kadencji KM, rozpoczęła dyskusję o rozwoju zastosowań matematyki w Polsce. Rozpoczęcie tej dyskusji nastąpiło na otwartym Posiedzeniu KZM, które odbyło się pierwszego dnia Konferencji Zastosowań Matematyki w Zakopanem (4–11 września 2012) organizowanej przez prof Łukasza Stettnera.

In 2012. the Commission of Applied Mathematics (CAM) of the Committee of Mathematics Polish Academy of Sciences (CM PAS), which I have the honor to preside in the current term, started a discussion on the development of applied mathematics in Poland. Started this discussion took place in an open meeting of CAM, which took place on the first day of the Conference of Applied Mathematics in Zakopane (4 - 11 September 2012), organized by prof. Łukasz Stettner.
