Anguillicola crassus Kuwahara, Niimi et Itagaki, 1974 is an Asian parasitic nematode that was introduced to Europe and inhabits the swim bladder of eels. In the 2002-2005 period, 237 eels, Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus, 1758), from Lake Wdzydze were examined for the occurrence of the nematode. 79.3% of the fish were infected, at a mean intensity of 7.2 nematodes per fish. Morphological measurements of the observed A. crassus are presented. This is the first published report of A. crassus in eels from Lake Wdzydze.

Paratenuisentis ambiguus, an acanthocephalan originating from North America, is an alien species parasitising the European eel Anguilla anguilla. It was first recorded in Lake Lebsko, on the central coast of Poland. The report gives morphometric measurements of male and female P. ambiguus from this locality. Because of the spread of the intermediate host Gammarus tigrinus and the appearance of new adults in eels along the southern Baltic Coast, P. ambiguus is evidently able to complete its life cycle in Baltic coastal waters.

The study of parasitic fauna of the Gulf of Gdansk eel revealed the presence of the nematode Anguillicola crassus, not recorded in the area before. The relatively high level of infection (prevalence of 41.9%; mean intensity of 3.0 ind.) is indicative of the nematode posing a hazard for the Gulf of Gdansk eel population. More than half of the infected eel showed anatomo-pathological changes typical of anguillicolosis.
