Organizational culture of the War Studies University in opinion of students of the Faculty of Management and Command

Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to present the of the opinions of students of the War Studies University about its organizational culture. Recently, the War Studies University has undergone a number of changes that affect on various areas of its operation. When considering the organizational culture of the War Studies University, special attention should be paid to the fact that it was established in 2016 in place of the National Defence University. In October 2019, three years have passed since this event. Here came the idea to develop an article that put special emphasis on the issue of organizational culture of the War Studies University in the opinion of its students who entered the Faculty of Management and Command. The research undertaken is of a pilot nature. Design/methodology/approach: The study involved 114 second degree students, full-time 61 students (53.51%) and part-time 53 people (46.49%) of the Faculty of Management and Command at the War Studies University. The study was conducted in June 2019. The survey questionnaire was used for the research. Findings: The results of this survey allowed to identify the students of the Faculty of Management and Command are able to identify, perceive those factors, elements and events that have a direct impact on the functioning of students in their role, while assessing these changes as important or very important. Originality/value: The author of this article presents the results of research on organizational culture in relation to the opinions of students of the Faculty of Management and Command. War Studies University in 2016 was transformed from the National Defense University.

Choć sztuka wojenna dynamicznie się przeobraża, niezmiennie znaczącą rolę odgrywa w niej człowiek. Można więc sądzić, że w najbliższej przyszłości nie zmniejszy się znaczenie odpowiedniego przygotowania personelu wojskowego na potrzeby sił zbrojnych. Ważne będzie kształcenie oficerów dyplomowanych - podstawowego zasobu wyższych kadr wojskowych. Istotną część takiego kształcenia, prowadzonego w Akademii Sztuki Wojennej w ramach Podyplomowych Studiów Operacyjno-Taktycznych, stanowi wiedza z zakresu taktyki, wyjaśnienie słuchaczom istoty wyższych poziomów dowodzenia. Takie podejście zmusza do refleksji nad zagadnieniami nie tylko natury taktycznej, lecz także historycznej, warto bowiem przybliżyć cenne doświadczenia zdobyte w czasie funkcjonowania Wyższej Szkoły Wojennej w Warszawie.

Although the art of war is dynamically transforming, man still plays a significant role in it. It can therefore be assumed that the importance of adequate preparation of military personnel for the armed forces will not diminish in the near future. It will be important to educate qualified officers - a basic resource for senior military personnel. An important part of such education, conducted at the University of War Studies as part of Postgraduate Studies in Opera and Tactics, is the knowledge of tactics, explaining to students the essence of higher levels of command. Such an approach forces us to reflect on issues of not only tactical, but also historical nature, as it is worthwhile to bring closer the valuable experience gained during the functioning of the War School in Warsaw.
