Landslide processes due to their dynamics, destructive effects and economic losses which they cause, have been the subject of research and descriptions since the 19th century. A facilitation in the study of landslides - not only mountain ones - was the use of high-resolution digital terrain models (DTM) generated on the basis of point clouds from airborne laser scanning. The use of LiDAR ALS data enabled the detection of over 115,000 main scarps of the landslides in the Polish Outer Carpathians, the development of a landslide main scarps density map per unit area in particular mesoregions, and the analysis of the causes of differences in the landslide main scarp density.
