Intelligent metering of electric power consumption

New measuring technologies enable remote metering of consumed electric power and allow reduction of its consumption. A so-called intelligent meter of the electric power is provided with a software enabling real time transmitting of the measured data. This is very important both to the customer and the service provider. The data may be transmitted with cables or by wireless means. The paper presents various M2M-type communication ways. Various methods of delivery, transfer and reading the data have been considered. Possible use of cable and wireless media has been illustrated. The existing solutions of the problem have been indicated, e.g. DSL, ADSL, PCL, UTP, GPRS, GMS.
