The paper addresses the changes on one of the largest continents, Africa, in aspect of transport systems and the economy. The African Union is a chance to integrate this area from many points of view. Infrastructure, the economic grow rate and transport development were also analysed.

W artykule omówiono współpracę rozwojową między Unią Europejską a Unią Afrykańską pod kątem wsparcia udzielanego przez Unię Europejską dla osiągnięcia zrównoważonego rozwoju krajów afrykańskich. Poddano krytycznej analizie osiągnięcia i porażki z zakresu współpracy między Unią Europejską a Unią Afrykańską dotyczącej wzajemnego zrównoważonego rozwoju między tymi ugrupowaniami regionalnymi. Szczególną uwagę zwraca brak transferu technologii z UE do krajów afrykańskich.

Development cooperation between the European Union and the African Union as regards of the support from the EU for the sustainable development of African countries was analysed. Critical analysis of the achievements and failures in the scope of cooperation between the European Union and the African Union concerning the mutual sustainable development between the two regional organizations was carried. Lack of technology transformation from the EU to African countries is striking.

Zagrożenia i wyzwania dla pokoju i bezpieczeństwa w Afryce odegrały w ostatnich dwóch dekadach decydującą rolę w kształtowaniu regionalnych elementów współpracy na rzecz zapewnienia stabilności w Afryce. Wysiłek państw kontynentu włożony w poszukiwanie i stworzenie mechanizmów działań na rzecz stabilizacji zaowocował przebudową ram współpracy regionalnej, czego konsekwencją było utworzenie Unii Afrykańskiej (UA), która wyposażona została w elementy reagowania - także z użyciem siły - w sytuacji, gdy na masową skalę łamane są elementarne prawa człowieka, które to wydarzenia afrykańska wspólnota uznaje za zagrożenie pokoju i bezpieczeństwa.

In the last decade challenges and threats to peace and security in Africa have played a crucial role in shaping the regional cooperation mechanisms created to ensure stability on the continent. Along with the establishment of the African Union (AU), an institutional framework for cooperation in the field of emergency response capabilities were re-developed. The result of that work was equipping the African Union with new response mechanisms to the destabilization of the situation. An important role in crisis response is played by humanitarian interventions. In this article the author discusses the possibility of the African Union’s humanitarian interventions to protect basic human rights. War crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity are recognised by African leaders as threats to peace and security.

Crisis situations in the Sahel region are nothing new. However geographical vicinity of Europe, historical ties, considerable Sahel states’ diasporas living in Europe and in particular last events with direct participation of numerous European countries brought an increased interest in the Sahel in many professional groups. It is worth to take a closer look at this region. The article contains a review of the crisis’ reasons and intertied reactions of international organizations, describing complexity of solving crises in Africa. Since recently African organizations have also been involved in dealing with crises on their continent. Nevertheless there is no doubt that international community is only at the outset of delivering assistance to the Sahel states.
