Quantitative and qualitative development of natural and agricultural science resources in the agro database (2009-2016)

The types of natural and agricultural science resources contained in the AGRO database have been characterized and their dynamic development in qualitative and quantitative terms in 2009–2016 has been described. In addition, types of database records are presented, with justification for their differentiation by: records containing only a bibliographic description of the article, bibliographic records along with authors’ affiliations, records with, in addition to the aforementioned elements, summaries and attachment bibliographies and records of the highest information value, most frequently searched by database users, in other words records containing full texts of articles. Furthermore, the database recipients and their information and search preferences based on surveys are defined. The use of AGRO in Poland and abroad is considered based on selected statistical data. The AGRO database development plans are discussed depending on the acquisition of funds for its maintenance and quantitative development and the multiplication of records with full texts.

Przedmiotem referatu jest promocja projektu: „Adaptacja metadanych AGRO do Polskiej Bibliografii Naukowej i POL-indexu”. Celem projektu jest harmonizacja rekordów bazy AGRO oraz wdrożenie nowych elementów metadanych w celu zapewnienia spójności i standardów z systemem Polskiej Bibliografii Naukowej i POL-indexem. Realizacja projektu umożliwia wykorzystanie danych bazy AGRO w kompleksowej ocenie działalności naukowej jednostek naukowych poprzez uczestnictwo w Systemie Informacji o Szkolnictwie Wyższym POL-on, za pośrednictwem Polskiej Bibliografii Naukowej. Metadane bazy AGRO zawierają informacje o publikacjach polskich jednostek naukowych i afiliowanych w nich pracownikach naukowych. Baza AGRO udostępniana jest na platformie „Otwarta Nauka”, której operatorem jest Interdyscyplinarne Centrum Modelowania Matematycznego i Komputerowego Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego (ICM). Zastosowanie ujednoliconych standardów w zakresie wprowadzania opisów bibliograficznych do bazy oraz poszerzenie rekordów bazy o afiliacje wszystkich autorów pozwoli na ewaluację dorobku naukowego pracowników naukowych. Ponadto autorzy przedstawiają procesy mające miejsce w realizacji projektu, jego wartość, dane liczbowe zarówno dotyczące rekordów bazy, pełnych tekstów itp., jak również najnowsze statystyki wykorzystania bazy AGRO przez użytkowników od stycznia do czerwca 2015 roku.

A promotion of the project is a subject of the paper: "Adaptation of AGRO metadata to the Polish Scientific Bibliography and POL-index". A harmonization of records of the AGRO database and implementing new elements of metadata in order to ensure the cohesion and standards with the system are an aim of the project of the Polish Scientific Bibliography and POL-index. The project implementation enables to use data of the AGRO database in the comprehensive evaluation of the scientific activity of scientific units through the participation in the Information System about the Higher Education POL-on, via the Polish Scientific Bibliography. Information about publications of Polish scientific individuals and researchers affiliated in them contains metadata of the AGRO database. The AGRO base is being opened on the platform "Opened Learning", which the Interdisciplinary Centre of the Modelling of the Mathematical and Computer Warsaw University (ICM) is an operator. Applying standardized standards in entering bibliographical descriptions into the base and widening records of the base for affiliations of all authors will let the evaluation of academic achievements of researchers. Moreover authors are showing processes taking place in the project implementation, his value, figures both bases concerning records, of full texts and the like, as well as latest statistics of using the AGRO database since January for June 2015 by users.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest przyrodniczo-rolnicza bibliograficzno-abstraktowa baza danych AGRO tworzona w Bibliotece Głównej Uniwersytetu Przyrodniczego w Poznaniu. W ramach realizacji projektu pt.: „Rozbudowa i przekształcenie bibliograficznej bazy danych AGRO w bazę bibliograficzno-abstraktową z wykorzystaniem oprogramowania YADDA” możliwym stało się zwiększenie atrakcyjności i walorów informacyjnych bazy AGRO dla użytkowników. Do rekordów bazy dodaje się abstrakty i bibliografię załącznikową. Dla zwiększenia możliwości informacyjnych bazy oraz w celu rozpowszechniania osiągnięć nauki polskiej za granicą, tłumaczone są słowa kluczowe w rekordach polskich na język angielski. W okresie realizacji projektu do bazy włączono ponad 130 nowych tytułów na bieżąco indeksowanych. Ponadto zawarto umowy z wydawcami, umożliwiające zamieszczanie pełnych tekstów w bazie. Obecnie ponad 50 tytułów czasopism podlega tej procedurze. Do końca 2013 planowano wzrost zindeksowanych artykułów do około 500 000 rekordów.

The subject of the presentation is the natural and agricultural, bibliography-abstract AGRO database which is created In Main Library of Poznań University of Life Sciences. Thanks to the project entitled: „The expansion and conversion of the bibliographical AGRO database into the bibliographical-abstract database using the YADDA software” it is possible to increase the attractiveness and the information capability of AGRO database for the users. The abstracts and the annex bibliography are added to the database records. In order to increase the information abilities of the database and to propagate the Polish science achievents abroad, the keywords in Polish records are translated into English. During the implementation of the project over 130 new index titles were included. Moreover, contracts with editors were signed, which enabled to put the whole texts in the database. At present there are over 50 titles of the magazines which come under this procedure. In terms of quantity, the indexed articles are predicted to increase to about 500.000 records.
