Information and Decision System Supporting the Production of ADI Cast Iron Products

The presented article concerns the issue of supporting the ADI cast iron product manufacturing process and presents an IT system dedicated mainly to designers and technologists. Designers can be supported at the stage of selecting types of materials and technologies (including ADI cast iron) to produce products with required properties. Technologists can obtain support in determining the parameters (temperature and chemical) of the ADI cast iron manufacturing process in order to obtain products with specific properties. The system also contains an information resources (standards, documentation, examples) concerning ADI cast iron and products made of it. Examples of use by individual system users are presented as a case study.

W artykule przedstawiono infrastrukturę techniczną i zakres produkcji Odlewni Polskich SA, przeprowadzone inwestycje i modernizację Zakładu. Opisano cel, zakres i realizację projektu celowego, opracowanego i wykonywanego wspólnie z Instytutem Odlewnictwa w Krakowie. Efektem końcowym projektu są: technologia wytwarzania odlewów z żeliwa ADI na skalę przemysłową, linia technologiczna do hartowania izotermicznego oraz uruchomienie produkcji odlewów z tego tworzywa. Przedstawiono strukturę i właściwości odlewów łopatek do turbin oczyszczarek śrutowych wykonanych z ADI w gatunku EN-GJS-1400-1 wg normy PN EN 1564. Uzyskano m.in.: wytrzymałość Rm = 1425 - 1524 MPa, wydłużenie A5 = 3 - 5 %, twardość HB = 400 - 430. Wskazano na zalety tych odlewów w porównaniu z dotychczas stosowanymi odlewami z żeliwa wysokochromowego (ok. 27% Cr): koszt produkcji niższy o 25%, trwałość zwiększona o 20%, wyeliminowanie podatności na pękanie podczas eksploatacji, możliwość recyklingu złomu obiegowego i zużytych łopatek. Odlewnie Polskie SA są pierwszym w kraju producentem odlewów z ADI i zamierzają systematycznie udoskonalać jakość swoich wyrobów, szczególnie odlewów z żeliwa sferoidalnego oraz rozszerzać asortyment i produkcję odlewów z ADI.

In the article the technical infrastructure and the production scope of the firm ODLEWNIE POLSKIE SA as well as the realized investments and modernization of the plant are presented. There was described the research project, developed and being carried out together with the Foundry Institute in Cracow. The final effects of the project are: the technology of the production of the ADI castings on the industrial scale, production line for the austempering of castings and opening the production of castings from this Kind of iron. The structure and properties of the cast blades for the turbines of the fettling machines made from ADI grade EN-GJS-1400-1 after the standard PN EN 1564 are presented. Their mechanical properties were as follows: tensile strength Rm = 1425-1524 MPa, elongation A5 = 3-5%, hardness HB = 400-430. The authors have indicated the advantages of these castings in comparison with the castings made from high chromium iron (about 27% Cr) used till now: by 25% lower production costs, by 20% greater durability, elimination of the susceptibility to cracking during operation as well as possibility of recycling of the returns and of the used blades. The firm ODLEWNIE POLSKIE SA is the first producer of ADI castings in Poland; it is intending to improve systematically the quality of their products, especially of the nodular iron castings as well as enlarge the assortment and production amount of the ADI castings.
