Artykuł jest przeglądem drogi, prowadzonej w sieciach telefonii mobilnej w Polsce od uruchomienia komórkowej sieci analogowej w 1992 r. przez kolejne generacje sieci 2G, 3G i 4G do 5G. Omówiono podstawowe cechy i obszary zastosowań sieci 5G, stan ich wdrożenia oraz perspektywy dalszego rozwoju ku sieci 6G.

The paper is an overview of how the mobile network has developed in Poland, from the deployment of the first analogue network in 1992 through subsequent 2G, 3G, and 4G upgrades, to the current 5G network. The 5G system main characteristics and its areas of deployment are presented. The prospects for further development towards 6G are also sketched out.

This paper presents an inexpensive and simple dual-band bisected psi antenna for 3G, Wi-Fi, WLAN, and WiMAX applications is presented. The antenna comprises a bisected psi-shaped patch on a low-price FR4 substrate with a cropped ground plane on the other side, and is fed by a 50 Ω microstrip line. It operates at two distinct frequency bands of 1.87–2.76 GHz and 5.16–5.75 GHz with |S11|≤ -10 dB.

The article introduces a method of performing a radio link quality assessment based on the Link Quality Indicator (LQI) which will be calculated for every system that is available. The method presented has been developed during the netBaltic project completed in Poland and generally applies to the so-called maritime zone A, i.e. the sea area where ships are still within the range of shore-based radio communication systems, particularly 3G/LTE cellular networks. The algorithm was developed based on the results of measurements obtained during two separate campaigns. That measurement data served as a basis for the method’s initial assumptions and was utilized during the method’s verification.

W artykule przeanalizowano i porównano funkcje wybranych aplikacji mobilnych wykorzystywanych do ukrywania dodatkowych wiadomości na materiale cyfrowym, takim jak: tekst, obraz lub dźwięk. Opisane aplikacje są dostępne w sklepach z aplikacjami mobilnymi dla dwóch wybranych systemów operacyjnych: iOS (Apple) i Android (Google). Aplikacje zostały przetestowane i ocenione pod kątem ich przydatności do celów ochrony treści o charakterze poufnym.

In the article the functions of the selected mobile applications used for hiding additional messages on digital carriers such as text, image or sound were analysed and compared. The applications referred to above are available in mobile application shops for two selected operational systems: iOS (Apple) and Android (Google). The applications have been tested and evaluated in the context of their usefulness for the purposes of protecting contents of confidential nature.

W artykule omówiono zagadnienie mobilności abonenta w kontekście ewolucji standardów komunikacji bezprzewodowej 3G, 4G LTE/4G LTE-A oraz 5G. Przekrojowo zostały omówione techniki wpływające na wzrost możliwości omawianych technologii, biorąc pod uwagę prędkości transmisji, opóźnienia, dostępność usług, dopuszczalne prędkości terminali w ruchu, pokrycie zasięgiem itp. Przedstawiono również zostały wymagania stawiane kolejnej generacji standardu komunikacji bezprzewodowej 5G, który obecnie znajduje się w fazie testów. Omówiono również koncepcję globalnej ewolucji cyfrowej jaką jest tzw. Internet Rzeczy (ang. Internet of Things).

In the article, the issues connected with the subscriber’s mobility in the context of the evolution of 3G, 4G LTE/4G LTE-A and 5G wireless communication standards were discussed. The techniques which influence the increase of the possibilities of the discussed technologies have also been mentioned taking into account the transmission speed, delays, service availability, allowable terminal speeds in motion, range coverage, etc. The requirements which another generation of 5G wireless communication standard, which at present is under tests, needs to face have also been presented. The concept of global digital evolutions which is the so-called Internet of Things has also been discussed.

The paper presents output results of 3G network simulation software in the area of optimal site location as well as finding optimal values of antenna tilt. The loss of capacity is shown for a wide range of tilts and different antenna directions. Nonuniform distribution of base stations has been also included in the simulation scenarios influencing system performance. All of the described parameters are especially significant to CDMA systems network planning.

An original hybrid method of channels assignment for DS-CDMA system is discussed in the paper. This method combines standard PN codes assignment policy and dynamic channel assignment procedure that minimise the cost of channel assignment. OPNET simulation model DS-CDMA system was used for assessment of the hybrid method. The results of simulation presented in the paper confirmed that the proposed method importantly improves the quality of services in the third generation cellular system.
