A series of random copolymers of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and sodium 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulphonate (AMPS) has been synthesized by free radical copolymerization. The content of AMPS in the copolymers ranged from 1.1 to 9.6 mol%. The reactivity ratios for the AMPS and NIPAM monomer pair, determined using different methods, were 11.0-11.6 and 2.1-2.4, respectively. The dependence of the aggregative behavior of the polyelectrolytes on the polymer composition, concentration and ionic strength has been studied.
