Przedmiotem artykułu są dwojakie konsekwencje przystąpienia Polski w 2009 roku do układu z Schengen. Jako pierwsze następstwo, otwartej przestrzeni znoszącej blokady graniczne, uznano w nim nieuchronność zmian infrastrukturalnych na pograniczach państw sąsiedzkich powiązanych tym układem. Szczegółowego ich przeglądu dokonano na przykładzie pogranicza polsko-niemieckiego. Drugim w kolejności logicznym następstwem tej integracji staje się scalanie regionów historycznych jakie na pograniczach tych istniały, zanim rywalizujące o nie państwa podzieliły je swymi granicami. Wymaga to zupełnie nowego podejścia do tworzenia euroregionów. Ex definitione powinny być nimi tylko regiony historyczne porozrywane granicami państwowymi. Podziały administracyjne, właściwe dla Europy Państw, zostaną wówczas docelowo zastąpione przez regiony historyczne Europy Ojczyzn.

The subject of the paper are twofold consequences of the Poland access to the Schengen Treaty in 2009. The first result of opening the borders are inevitable in the infrastructure of the areas adjacent to the borders in the treaty countries. They are discussed using the example of the Polish-German border. The second consequence is the consolidation of historical regions which exist before being divided by the state borders. This calls for a completely new approach to creating Euroregions. They should be, ex definition, historical regions, divided now by political state frontiers. The administrative units, typical in the Europe of National States should be replaced by the historical regions of the Europe of Homelands.

Monazite from the Stolpen monzogranite (SE Germany) was studied to constrain the Th-U-total Pb age of pluton formation. Monazite grains demonstrate subtle to distinct patchy zoning related to slight compositional variations. Textural and compositional characteristics indicate that the monazite formed in a single magmatic event in a slightly heterogeneous system, and was only weakly affected by secondary alteration, which did not disturb the Th-U-Pb system. Chemical dating of the monazite gave a consistent age of 299 ± 1.7 Ma. The current study presents the first geochronological data for the Stolpen granite. It provides evidence that Stolpen is the youngest Variscan granitic intrusion in the Lusatian Granodiorite Complex and indicates that magmatic activity related to post-collisional extension in this region lasted at least 5my longer than previously assumed.

Łużyczanie pod koniec II wojny światowej dostrzegli szansę na utworzenie etnicznego państwa, obejmującego zasięg historycznych krain Łużyc Dolnych i Górnych. Dla wsparcia działań politycznych i dyplomatycznych Łużycki Komitet Narodowy wkrótce po zakończeniu wojny opublikował mapę przeglądową, a następnie tekę map o zróżnicowanej tematyce. Prezentowały one charakterystykę tego obszaru i potencjał narodowościowo-gospodarczy dla wykazania możliwości samoistnego bytu państwowego. Poszczególne mapy zostały omówione w niniejszym opracowaniu.

West Slavic tribes of the Elbe basin lost independence in the 10th century. It is only the Lusatian Serbs living in the Spree basin who have survived up to this day. They perceived the end of World War I as an opportunity to rebuild their statehood, which they never succeeded in regaining. Another chance appeared with the fall of the Third Reich. In order to strive for independence, The Lusatian National Committee was formed in Prague with cartography as one of its modes of operation. One of the results of this activity was Matej Semik's elaboration of a survey map presenting the expanse of the Lusatian state to be, published in 1945 by the state owned Geodesy Office in Prague. The language of the legend is Russian, which proves that it was printed for the Soviet authorities. The southern border of the postulated state is identical with the present German-Czech and Polish-Czech borders. In the West it runs North East of Dresden and comes close to the borders of Berlin. From here it turns to the Oder river South of Frankfurt (Oder) and runs along the Bobr and Kwisa rivers, like the historic Silesian-Lusatian border. These regions haven't been inhabited by the Lusatian Serbs for a long time, so the delimitation has been made on the basis of a simplified historic range formed in the Middle Ages between Silesian duchies and the Lusatian Margraviate. Next year, also in Czechoslovakia, there were published seven color general and thematic maps, mainly in the scale of 1:750 000, and less frequently of 1:500,000, with titles and legend in English, Rus sian and French. The essential value of this set of maps lies in the cartographic expression of independence oriented political thought of the Lusatian Serbs. The toponymic aspect is very interesting, referring to the just forming names on the territory of Poland and Lusatia. The above mentioned set includes a survey map of Lusztia and a map of Europe's communication network with Lusatian borders as well as five thematic maps: Required Territory, Colonization of Lusatia, Transport Network, Industry and Agriculture. The economy maps, which were to show the postulated state's ability to exist independently, carry the greatest content value. However, they should be considered in historical context, because they register the situation as it was at the turn of the thirties and forties of the 20th century in that part of the German state. The lin¬guistic map is less trustworthy, because it seems to inflate the participation of Serbian speaking popula¬tion in order to attain beneficial publicity. Economy maps are more trustworthy, although they use prewar, nevertheless valid data (especially the map of agriculture). They constitute an important document of economic history, generally being the product of Czech cartography, elaborated and published by Czechs with a nonspecific participation of the Lusatian Serbs. In view of the fact that the territory of Poland has been included, the maps should become a part of the bulk of cartographic knowledge incorporating that country. For obvious reasons, the set of maps is of primary importance to the nation of Lusatian Serbs.

IBA Fürst-Pückler-Land już nie istnieje jako instytucja, jednak zapoczątkowany przez nią proces trwa nadal i nie da się już go ani powstrzymać, ani odwrócić. Mamy nadzieję, że władze i mieszkańcy regionu zachowując te projekty będą stać na straży cennego doświadczenia, sprawdzonego know-how i stworzonych sieci relacji. W okresie dwuletniej fazy likwidacyjnej ustalono, że - we współpracy z miastem Großräschen - dawne biura IBA zostaną przekształcone w centrum nauki z bazą danych i biblioteką multimedialną oraz zapleczem noclegowym.

The IBA Fürst-Pückler-Land no longer exists as an institution. But the processes it has triggered cannot be reversed. The region will keep its projects and we hope it will also retain the networks, the treasure of experience and the relevant know-how. In the two-year liquidation phase of the IBA GmbH, the course is being set - in cooperation with the town of Großräschen - to reuse the former management offices as an IBA study center with an information store and a media library. There will also be opportunities for students and excursions to stay the night there.

Duży sprzęt wydobywczy ma podstawowe znaczenie w kopalniach odkrywkowych na obszarze Łużyc. Połączenie różnych koparek np.: koparek kołowych o wydajności pomiędzy 10 000 - 12 OOO m3/h osiąga roczną zdolność przewozową około 140 Mm3. Początkowo koparki te były zaprojektowane do wydobywania skal sypkich o mniejszym oporze urabiania. Wydobywanie gleb zwięzłych ze stosunkowo dużą siłą urabiania i przy zachowaniu narzędzi urabiania prowadzi konsekwentnie do znaczącej redukcji wydajności produkcji. Określony opór urabiania jest iloczynem skalarnym naturalnie zmieniających się właściwości gruntu, ograniczonego wpływu procesu urabiania oraz kształtu i geometrii narzędzia urabiającego. Niniejsza praca zawiera opis badań i prac rozwojowych mających na celu stworzenie optymalnych narzędzi urabiania służących do wydobywania materiałów gliniastych. Geometria krawędzi urabiającej i projekty warstw odpornych na ścieranie zmieniały się i były udoskonalane wielokrotnie na podstawie analiz mechaniki gruntów, testów i przewidywań dotyczących odporności gruntów na urabianie oraz analiz procesu zużywania się. Ocena zmian została dokonana poprzez pośrednie mierzenie efektywnej siły urabiania porównanej do zrealizowanej wydajności produkcji. Na podstawie tych doświadczeń wyciągane są i prezentowane ogólne założenia z uwzględnieniem projektu krawędzi urabiania w zależności od rodzaju gleby.

Large extraction equipment has a central meaning in the lignite mines of the Lusatian lignite district. Combinations of different excavators e.g. bucket wheel excavators with total single production capacity between 10,000 and 12,000 m3/h achieve annual transport capacities of approximately 140 Mm3. Originally, these excavators were designed to extract cohesion less soil with low specific cutting resistance. The excavation of cohesive soil with accordingly high cutting forces and under retention of the cutting tools is leading consequently to a significant reduction of the production capacity. The specific cutting resistance is a scalar product of the naturally changing soil properties, the restricted influence able cutting process and the shape and geometry of the cutting tool. The thesis contains the description of research and development activities to create optimized cutting tools for the excavation of clayey soil materials. The geometry of the cutting edge and the design of wear-resistant layers was varied and developed over several steps on the base of soil-mechanic analyses, the testing and prediction of soil breakage behavior and the analysis of the wear process. The evaluation of the modifications was made by an indirect measuring of the effective cutting force and the comparison to the realized production capacity. On the background of those experiences general statements are derived and presented regarding the design of cutting edges in dependence on the type of soil materials.

Połacie ziemi w Niemczech Wschodnich przechodzą właśnie ambitną operację odmładzającą: zalewane są nieczynne kopalnie odkrywkowe, które pamiętają jeszcze czasy NRD, a cały region przekształca się w największe w Europie sztuczne pojezierze i zarazem nową atrakcję turystyczną. W latach 2000-2010 procesowi rekultywacji terenów towarzyszyła międzynarodowa wystawa budownictwa stwarzająca nowe perspektywy rozwoju regionalnego. Teraz dobiegła ona końca.

The paper presents diversity of geological structure and natural landscapes of the Upper Lusatia region, and its geotouristic significance. Selected geological and geomorphological sites providing insights into the granite Lusatian Massif, Cretaceous sandstones, Cainozoic volcanic activity and Pleistocene glacial legacy are described in detail. The exhibition in the Museum of Natural History in Goerlitz and an open-air park of glacial erratics in Nochten are places worth visiting

Od początku procesu uprzemysłowienia Łużyce były niszczone tak dotkliwie, że naturalne zdolności regeneracyjne tych terenów zostały wyczerpane. Dlatego obszary te wymagają rewitalizacji. Celem procesu odnowy nie może być "czystka", ani tym bardziej zaprzeczanie industrialnej przeszłości Łużyc. Czy nie jest prawdą, że rozbiórka i konwencjonalna regeneracja pozbawiają ludzi poczucia identyfikacji, osobistych historii i legend?

Multistage and expensive activities are necessary to reconstruct and repair natural environment in this area. Sanitation activities presented in the paper were shown during the training organized by Saxony authorities.
