We present a novel method of fast and reliable data gathering for the purpose of location services based on radio signal strength services such as WiFi location/ navigation. Our method combines the acquisition of location and mapping based on computer vision methods with WiFi signal strength stochastic data gathering. The output of the method is threefold: 3D metric space model, 2D floor plan map and metric map of stochastic radio signal strength. The binding of location data with radio data is done completely automatically, without any human intervention. The advantage of our solution lies also in a significant speed-up and density increase of Radio Map generation which opens new markets for WiFi navigation services. We have proved that presented solution produces a map allowing location in office space of accuracy 1.06 m.

Kolizje ze zwierzętami w transporcie kolejowym są powszechne, choć słabo rozpoznane. Stanowią zagrożenie dla bezpieczeństwa pasażerów, a ponadto powodują wymierne straty dla przewoźników w postaci kosztów naprawy taboru oraz opóźnień. Problem jest znacznie poważniejszy w przypadku przewozów pasażerskich, ponieważ pociągi pasażerskie poruszają się z większymi prędkościami, niż pociągi towarowe. W przypadku kolizji rozmiar szkód zależy także od rozmiaru zwierzęcia. Analiza miejsc kolizji oraz staranne zbieranie danych przez wszystkich przewoźników miałoby znaczący wpływ na bezpieczeństwo i koszty transportu kolejowego.

Collisions with animals in rail transport, both cargo and passenger railways, are common but poorly recognized. Such a collisions create a danger for the travelers and also cause countable loss for railway carriers, it means costs of rolling stock’s repairs and delays of the trains. The problem is much more significant in passenger railways due to the higher speed of such a transport when compared with cargo trains. In case of collision the scale of damages also depends on the size of the animal. Analysis of collision sites and careful collection of data conducted by the all railway carriers would have a significant influence on safety and costs of railway transport.

The applications in basic science of optical surface devices for atoms are reviewed, with the emphasis on the optical dipole mirrors. The example of experimental realization of such a mirror constructed in our group is shortly presented. Some methods used in its characterization are shown.

Można powiedzieć, że przed spółką PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA stoją dwa podstawowe problemy: utrzymanie oraz modernizacja i racjonalizacja struktury linii kolejowych. Od zarządcy infrastruktury wymagane jest utrzymanie linii kolejowych na określonym poziomie technicznym oraz przeprowadzanie procesu ich modernizacji. Inwestycje kolejowe powinny być (w pierwszej kolejności) prowadzone głównie na liniach z największym ruchem.

The PKP PLK SA management have publically announced the necessity of the development of the Information System for Rail Lines, as a spatial information system that would fulfil the strategic function of gathering, processing, analyzing and visualizing data supplying the invaluable knowledge about objects and occurrences connected with the rail infrastructure. Experts point out that the effective development of such system should be preceded by the implementation of the Linear Reference System (LRS).
