Manual analysis of brain tumors magnetic resonance images is usually accompanied by some problem. Several techniques have been proposed for the brain tumor segmentation. This study will be focused on searching popular databases for related studies, theoretical and practical aspects of Convolutional Neural Network surveyed in brain tumor segmentation. Based on our findings, details about related studies including the datasets used, evaluation parameters, preferred architectures and complementary steps analyzed. Deep learning as a revolutionary idea in image processing, achieved brilliant results in brain tumor segmentation too. This can be continuing until the next revolutionary idea emerging.
For determination of the in-situ deformation modulus of rock mass at Bakhtiari Dam site, located in south-west of Iran, plate jacking tests (PJT) and dilatometer tests (DLT) carried out during the geotechnical investigations. In this study, the results of PJTs and DLTs were compared. This comparison involves 89 vertical and horizontal PJTs and 83 DLTs carried out in 6 rock units of Sarvak formation. Although, both PJTs and DLTs in the Bakhtiari Dam site were performed in same geological and geotechnical conditions, but there are not sufficient side by side data to make a paired two samples correlation. Therefore, the mean of in-situ data was compared at each rock unit. Besides Mann–Whitney U tests were performed to compare in-situ test results. The comparison shows that the deformation modulus measured by both methods has no significant differences. However, in low quality rock masses the moduli measured by the use of DLTs were greater than the modulus measured by PJTs. Conversely, in high quality rock masses the results of PJTs were greater than DLT’s.
Medical linacs used in radiotherapy produce bremsstrahlung spectra. In the energy range from 8 to 25 MV medical linacs produce, besides the clinically useful electron and photon beams, secondary neutrons. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an external wedge filter on the photoneutron dose equivalent produced by a medical linac at patient plane. Polycarbonate (PC) films were used for the determination of photoneutron dose equivalent produced by a Varian 2100 C/D linac working at 18 MV photon mode. Neutron dose equivalent was measured at distances 0, 10, 20 and 50 cm from the center of the X-ray beam for open field and after inserting a wedge filter. It was noted that by inserting the external wedge in the path of the X-ray beam, the photoneutron dose equivalent was increased compared to open field. It can be concluded that an external wedge, made from heavy materials may act like the other components of linac head, producing undesired photoneutrons and thus increasing patient dose.
