Irrespective of the epoch man has always aimed at ensuring himself and his family a safe shelter, which is an apartm ent building. Review of the building industry history shows how used building materials affect its development. They affect the construction of buildings, dimensions, shape and architectonic form of a building. Results of field investigations relating to building materials solutions for detached houses in the commune of Kościan have been presented in this article. We took into account the year of building, material, which was used for construction of particular building elements, its finishing and isolation.
