The Republic of Poland is one of the most important military participants of peace missions under the auspices of the United Nations. What is more, Poland belongs to the structures and organizations of the western world – the European Union, NATO. Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The participation in international organizations, in free economic market, free flow of people, thoughts, ideas foster social and political transformations. Consequently, the transformation process must also occur in the Polish Armed Forces, what is natural and logical in relation to changes that take place in the whole country. At present the Polish Armed Forces are undergoing a process of modernising their armament, equipment, structures and also principles of acquiring soldiers. The changes taking place in the country and in the world made the decision makers take the decision of the professionalisation of the armed forces, what enforces activities in such areas as law, sociology, military sciences and economics. Wide and complex reforms in the Armed Forces may bring about a positive result only when the soldiers' mentality will be changed and there will be funds to cover a complex training and technical modernization of the army.

War is an evolving cultural value. It is not an extension of politics - in this case it would be an invariable form of behavior. Through the analysis of terms defining war and military conflict as they are characterized within the confines of international law, military literature and social sciences, the Author searched for answers to the following questions: What is war? What does the war mean to the human being? How is it depicted, closed within the confines of cultural rituals? The Author investigated the issue of a relation between the military habits or war on its own and the evolving human culture. He proposes a thesis that war is not coming from politics of man, but from the culture of his behavior. The way of waging a war reflects the cultural and civilization level of human being and shows different forms of social organizations.

W ostatnich latach coraz więcej uwagi zwraca się na efekty środowiskowe działalności człowieka. Inżynierowie pracują nad coraz nowocześniejszymi urządzeniami, które zużywałyby coraz mniej energii przy przynajmniej takiej samej wydajności. Głównym odbiorcą energii elektrycznej są zakłady przemysłowe, a w szczególności pracujące w nich silniki. Szacuje się, że ogólnie napędy pochłaniają 70% całej globalnej produkcji energii. Nie powinno więc dziwić, że szczególny nacisk kładzie się na obniżenie energochłonności właśnie układów napędowych.

In the past years, serial production of motors with die-cast copper cage rotors was started. This paper reviews the advantages of substituting die-cast copper for aluminum in the motor rotor made by SIEMENS. Specially it will discuss changes in the losses - rotor resistance losses, indage and friction losses, as well as stray load losses. As an example, losses for a 11 kW motor are presented. Additionally, performance data of example industrial motors with aluminum and copper cage are presented. Also, changes in both the starting and the breakdown torque are pointed out. In the end, the idea of construction of the 1LE1 motor new series is presented.

W artykule przedstawiono energoelektroniczny układ zasilacza do testowania rozruszników samochodowych. Realizacja tego zadania napotkała na pewne problemy związane ze sterowaniem przemiennika MSI, który został zastosowany w zasilaczu. Problemy te pojawiły się na etapie uruchamiania urządzenia i dotyczyły możliwości zastosowanego w układzie sterowania mikrokontrolera Intel 80C196KC. Pokazano otrzymane rezultaty, obejmujące nie tylko pracę samego przemiennika, ale także uzyskane za pomocą skonstruowanego zasilacza wyniki badań, produkowanych przez przedsiębiorstwo rozruszników.

Power electronic supply system for car starter testing is presented in the paper. The authors faced some problems with PWM inverter installed in a starter supply system during realization of this task. The problems were connected with the implemented modulation method and inadequate gradation of the microcontroller timer. There are also given some results obtained in the inverter and supply system during the testing cycle.
