Uwagi o architekturze w Gorlicach (w południowej Polsce) powstały na bazie szczegółowych badań terenowych. W studium posłużono się metodą architektoniczno-krajobrazową, zapisując i analizując sekwencje wnętrz. Na ponad tysiącu zdjęć utrwalono obrazy zabudowy zagrodowej drewnianej i murowanej, mieszkaniowej, zachowanej na terenie miasta i w okolicznych wsiach. Pozwoliło to na podjęcie próby systematyzacji budownictwa w regionie gorlickim. Stwierdzono jego różnorodność i reprezentatywność dla ostatniego stulecia architektury małych miast w Małopolsce i na Podkarpaciu. Komentarze do wybranych budynków i sposobu ich rewaloryzacji mogą być stosowane także w odniesieniu do innych miasteczek i wsi, ze względu na podobieństwo analizowanych procesów rozwojowych. Celem studium jest dążenie do piękna formy i bogactwa treści małych miast i otaczających je wsi.

The article was based on detailed field studies of architecture in Gorlice (southern Poland). In this study was used the architectural-landscape method which helped to record and analyze the sequence of enclosures. In Gorlice and in the surrounding villages there are examples of different types of housing environment, which were documented in more than thousand pictures. Small wooden houses, but also brick tenement houses are present in the field of research. It was made an attempt to systematize the types of buildings in region of Gorlice. In the article was shown that this architecture is diverse and representative for the last century in small towns in Małopolska and Podkarpacie Province. Some remarks on selected buildings and the way of their revalorization, could be applied in another towns and villages, because of similarities in their development. The aim of study is to striving for beauty of forms in architecture of small towns and their surroundings.

Budowanie w pięknym niemal naturalnym otoczeniu jest wielką sztuką. Wymaga to poznania zasad i prawidłowości, prostych i zrozumiałych dla każdego oraz znajomości praw rządzących przyrodą. Wykorzystanie dostępnych w naturze materiałów i doświadczenie pory monsunowej wymusza najsprawniejsze, ekonomiczne rozwiązania. Dużą rolę odgrywa zgodność z porami roku, wytrwałość i wiara w wykonywane dzieło, potem dopiero technologia, coraz nowocześniejsze materiały i odwieczne prawa. Niniejsze studium dowodzi czego możemy nauczyć się w dalekim, hinduskim stanie Kerala, zasiedlonym od czasów prehistorycznych. Istotny jest więc wybór miejsca i materiałów budowlanych – doświadczony przez wieki i ciągle doskonalony.

Building in a beautiful almost natural environment is a skill that requires knowledge of the principles and regularities which are simple and understandable for everyone as well as knowledge of the nature of things, knowledge of the laws governing nature, experiencing the monsoon season, the use of naturally available materials; poverty imposes the most efficient, cost-effective solutions. Harmony with the seasons, perseverance and faith, social and caste-like organization, only later comes the technology, increasingly modern materials and better law. The study shows what we can learn in a distant Indian province inhabited since prehistoric times, experiencing the monsoon season and the great waves of the ocean, so the choice of location and construction materials is affected by centuries of experience.
