Content available remote Studies on Ar-CO2 plasma jet conversion of hexane

Hexane was converted with carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide and hydrogen in an argon-carbon dioxide plasma jet reactor with the stabilized dc arc discharge. The reaction mixture was quenched in a diaphragm heat exchanger. The power of the arc discharge was 9.5 - 17 kW. The increase of the specific energy in the range 11.5 - 17 MJ/ kg resulted in an increase in high hexane conversion (45 to 63%) and selectivity of the hydrogen formation (18 to 35 mol %). The average contents of CO and H2 in the reaction mixture were 26 and 15 vol.%, respectively. The energy consumption during the processes of generation synthesis gas and hydrogen were 23.5 and 58 MJ/m3, respectively.

Hexane was converted in Ar - C02 and Ar - 02 arc plasma jet. CO and Hz are the main products of conversion. Increase in the specific energy from 8.5 to 17 MJ/kg results in increased conversion yield to over 70%. In the case of Ar- CO2 plasma content of CO and H2 at high specif c energies were over 30 and 20 per cent by volume, respectively. In case of Ar-02 plasma they were respectively 30 and 40 per cent by volume. Energy consumption during the process of generating synthesis gas in Ar-COZ plasma was 18-22 MJ/cu.m, and in Ar-O2 plasma 9-11 MJ/cu.m.
