Introduced in 2000, Directive 2000/53/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe prohibits the use of heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium VI in the textile materials used in cars. Therefore, there is a need to monitor the content of these materials in vehicles having ended their life-cycle. The reason is the high toxicity of the analysed metals. In order to monitor the level of metals contained in the upholstery a series of experiments using ASA and UV-Vis was performed. Based on the performed investigations own test procedure was developed and validated, concerning the determination of heavy metals (PB, Hg, Cd, Cr VI) in samples of automotive textiles.
