Researches concerned batch ethanol fermentation performed by yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae V30 immobilized in aluminium alginate pellets of diameters equal to 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 mm and hardened for 3, 6, 12, 18 and 24 hours in AlCla solution. The hardening within 12 hours did not affect the process speed whereas the same treatment within 18 and 24 hours caused the significant decrease of the fermentation rate, especially when pellets of 2.5 mm were used.
Investigations on ethanol fermentation with Saccharomyces cereuisiae cells immobilized on the porous ceramic carrier have been carried out. The results indicated that immobilized Saccharomyces cereuisiae cells efficiently produced ethanol. The fermentation activity of free and adsorbed cells was similar.
