It is argued that specialization, wide front, and large costs of nowadays research make scientific critique particularly important. Principal issues which should be considered by referees are enumerated. Advantages and limitations of statistical methods, like citation index, are discussed. It is emphasisted that considerable attention should be paid to evaluation of means employed for transfer of the results towards both scientific community and general public.
