Architektura nie może być jedynie odpowiedzią na jednostkowe zamówienie. Podobnie jak sztuka w ogóle, architektura winna stawiać pytania i jednocześnie formułować odpowiedzi. Jest jej potrzebna wolność, która nie oznacza oderwania od rzeczywistości, ale wolność pozwalająca poznawać rzeczywistość, w którą architektura jest wkomponowywana… by budować nową rzeczywistość, zdolną interpretować wartości i dążenia naszych czasów. Ostatecznym celem architektury jest „dotknąć serca”. Ale co nas porusza w formach architektonicznych, jeśli nie identyfikacja ich znaczenia? Relacja pomiędzy formą i znaczeniem winna być ustanawiana za każdym razem na nowo, z pełną świadomością tradycji, a jednocześnie swobodą myśli, pozwalającą wyjść poza wcześniej ustanowione relacje. Architektura nie jest zbyteczna, jak wielu uważa, ale niezbędna dla dobra nas wszystkich.

Architecture cannot be the response to a particular demand. Like art in general, architecture has to ask the questions and formulate their answers at the same time. This is its necessary freedom, which does not mean detachment from reality but simply the freedom to know the reality in which it is inserted... to construct a new reality that knows how to interpret the values and aspirations of our time. The ultimate goal of architecture is to “touch the heart. ”But what touches the heart in the forms of architecture, if not the recognition of their meaning? The relationship between form and meaning has to be established anew each time, in full awareness of the tradition, but with the freedom of thought that allows us to go beyond any pre-set relationship. Architecture is not superfluous, as many think, but necessary for the wellbeing of us all.

Wielka forma to kształt epoki. Nie ma zatem żadnej automatycznej relacji pomiędzy epoką a dziełem sztuki. Dzieła sztuki (architektury) nie da się wydedukować z epoki, można je wyłącznie stworzyć poprzez poznanie znaczenia czasów, w których powstaje.

The form of the era is the grand form. So there is no mechanical relationship between epoch and artwork. The artwork (architecture) cannot be deduced from the epoch, it can only be produced through knowledge of the values of the time. Its presence brings to light the values of the time in which it is produced.

This lecture is aimed at those who believe in the need for a theory of design. Today this need is great, and it can be recognized in the contradictory nature of the examples provided by contemporary architecture. A unitary viewpoint - that civil consciousness that has always formed the basis for the art of construction - should serve as the foundation for such a theory, but architecture, as in art, such a viewpoint seems to have been lost.

In the cycle of constant transformation of culture the time of communication and resulting visual image primacy has come. In consequence, architecture has been reduced to its pure image. Reality as a whole is interpreted through the images it produces and in the processes of knowledge of reality, what is lacking is any analysis of the relationships of cause and effect.

W ciągłej transformacji kultury nastała era komunikacji i prymatu obrazu. W wyniku tych przeobrażeń również architektura została zredukowana do swojego czystego obrazu. Odczytujemy rzeczywistość poprzez obrazy, jakie generuje, a w procesach poznania zaczyna brakować jakiejkolwiek refleksji nad związkiem między przyczyną, a skutkiem.
