W artykule przedstawiono rozważania na temat coraz wyraźniej zauważanej tendencji do odchudzania wyrobów, co w efekcie prowadzi do skrócenia czasu ich użytkowania. Zjawisko to nazwane jest w artykule planowanym ograniczaniem trwałości wyrobów. Pokazano, że trudno je jednoznacznie ocenić. Generalnie jest korzystne dla producentów, ponieważ może prowadzić do wzrostu zapotrzebowania na nowe produkty. Dla użytkowników niższa trwałość wyrobu jest w zasadzie mankamentem, ale niekoniecznie. W pewnych sytuacjach, w których użytkownik występuje jako potencjalny pracobiorca, może się okazać czymś pozytywnym.

The paper presents some reflections on the more and more marked tendency of planed products obsolescence. It was shown that it is difficult to judge this phenomenon. In general it is advantageous for producers because it increases demand on new products. For the users a shorter product life time is in principle unprofitable. But under some conditions, e.g. when the user is a potential job searcher, the planed products obsolescence can also have some positive aspects.

The contemporary enterprises have found themselves in a situation in which the ability of dynamic adaptation to the changing market conditions becomes the crucial factor of competitive advantage. It means that all the employees of enterprises who are responsible for and engaged in the processes have to be equipped with appropriate tools that would enable them taking quick, easy and effective improvement actions. It concerns both the employees of executive positions and those who are directly engaged in the realization of manufacturing processes. The attempt of solving this problem will consist in preparation of author's methodology of selection and application of quality management tools, ac- cording to the needs of the manufacturing process improve- ment. In the situation of wide access to literature, gaining knowledge concerning an instrument, its application, etc. does not pose a problem; the problem is a great variety - making access to the most useful instrument, in given technical and organizational conditions of a process, difficult. So far prepared classification of quality instruments puts in order theoretical material; however it is not accurate enough to indicate "paths" of searching out the required, in a given moment, instruments. Available manuals comprise reviews of tens or even hundreds of instruments. While delegating powers and encouraging employees participate in quality matters, one often forgets that they may easily get lost due to the lack of abilities to move in the cobweb of numerous required in the case of operating decisions and executive actions. The attempt of solving this problem consists in preparation of author's methodology of selection and application of quality management tools, according to the needs of the manufacturing process improvement. The presented method of criteria matrix is one of the elements of the methodology.
