The article considers the origin of Record Charter of Monuments of Architecture and Building, which Andrzej K. Olszewski and his team preparet at the Centre for Documentation of Historical Monuments in 1975 at the request of Prof. Wojciech Kalinowski. The four page-long Charter contains basic information about the given object, its descripton, history of construction, conservation information, archival data and bibliography. Work on the Charter was part of a programme launched by Prof. Kalinowski, aimed at a general introduction of order into the system of recording historical monuments in Poland. Basic data from the Charter were to create a central catalogue in the form of microfiches and be introduced into a computer. Prof. Kalinowski wanted constant recording of historical monuments in Poland to be combinet with an archive of architectonic plans and a current publication of the results. The programme for recording historical monuments included also twentieth-century architecture, whose several objects were studied at the Centre for the Documentation of Historical Monuments in 1975-1976. Although Prof. Kalinowski, a man of great knowledge, extensive conceptions and kindness was unable to realise all of his plans, the Record Charter of Monuments of Archiecture and Building, prepared upon his initiative, is used up to this very day.
