The growing popularity of composite reinforcements intended for concrete members, RC members and masonry structures has led to the rapid development of systemic materials with varied parameters. In the case of heritage buildings it is important that any alterations in the original appearance do not significantly interfere in the historical and visual aspects of the structure being strengthened. This paper focuses on composites with PBO fibers and a mineral mortar-based matrix (PBO-FRCM), designed for strengthening purposes, which in their ultimate form resemble plaster in their appearance. Consequently, unlike FRP composites, PBO-FRCM composites do not excessively disturb the appearance of monuments, which is highly important. The authors present essential information about the properties of PBO-FRCM composites, derived from the literature on the subject, and their recent research aimed at increasing the effectiveness of composite mobilization. The research covers the shear strengthening of beams, the flexural strengthening of slabs and the strengthening of members in compression.

Wprowadzenie PN-EN 15037 wymusiło m.in.: konieczność dostosowania dokumentacji technicznej, a także wprowadzenie zmian w geometrii i zbrojeniu oferowanych prefabrykatów. W artykule opisano problemy związane z dostosowaniem stropów Teriva do wymagań PN-EN 15037. Skoncentrowano się na nośności zgięciowej tych stropów. Zaproponowano sposób jej obliczania, który prowadzi do pewnych oszczędności w zbrojeniu (w stosunku do dotychczas stosowanego typoszeregu belek), pomimo zwiększenia obciążeń.

The aim of the article is to indicate the main design problems related to the calculation of deflections of rib-and-blook floors according to the PN-EN 15037, that is presented on the example of Teriva floors.
This paper presents experimental research on expanded clay aggregate concrete. The aim of the investigations was to determine if the pre-wetting of expanded clay aggregate has an effect on the freeze-thaw durability of the expanded clay aggregate concrete. Five concrete series based on the same concrete mix design were made and tested. The degree of pre-wetting of the aggregate was varied: dry aggregate was used in the first series, aggregate with a moisture content of 10% was used in series IA and IB and aggregate with a moisture content of 25% was used in series IIA and IIB. Also the approach to the production process was varied: in series A the water contained in the aggregate was taken into account in the global water-cement ratio (consequently a reduced amount of water was added to the mix), whereas in series B the nominal amount of water was added to the mix (as in the case of dry aggregate). The freeze-thaw resistance criterion was based on the assessment of the decrease of compressive strength and increase in weight loss after exposure to freeze-thaw cycles. The expanded clay aggregate concrete’s strength and mass decrements caused by freeze-thaw cycling were used as the measure of its freeze-thaw resistance. The investigations have shown that the pre-wetting of expanded clay aggregate has an effect on the freeze-thaw durability of the expanded clay aggregate concrete. The differences of concrete compressive strength decrease related to freezethaw durability may be 2 to 5 times greater when inadequate method of calculating mixing water for concrete is used.

W artykule przedstawiono badania kompozytu FRCM (Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix) z włóknami PBO (p-Phenylene Benzobis Oxazole), w których zastosowano metodę pomiaru odkształceń z wykorzystaniem DFOS (Distributed Fibre Optic Sensors).

This paper discusses the research on FRCM (Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix) composite with PBO (p-Phenylene Benzobis Oxazole) fibres, in which the Distributed Fibre Optic Sensors (DFOS) were used for strain measurements. FRCM composites with high strength PBO fibres allow to gain high load bearing capacity increases of the strengthened RC structure without losing the effect in case of fire situation, as it happens with FRP composites (Fibre Reinforced Polymers). The used research method allows to obtain geometrically continuous strain measurement that is important in FRCM composite effectiveness evaluation. Additionally, it allows to find a place of RC element cracking. Suitability analysis of this kind of research method has been carried out and future perspectives on PBO-FRCM composites research are presented.

Reinforcing concrete with steel fibers is an increasingly used method of improving its cracking resistance. The most common application of such kind of reinforcement is associated with industrial floors. The variety of the fibers available on the market allows to meet different project criteria. The newest generation of steel fibers makes it possible to omit classical steel rebars in some cases despite high load levels. In this paper selected research results regarding the potential of using machining wastes as a substitute to steel fibers available on the market are presented. The most important mechanical properties of proposed fiber reinforced concrete and two reference materials – concrete and typical fiber reinforced concrete are compared. Additionally, the analysis of key technological factors was carried out.
